Wammy Titan 2 review and Unboxing – The quad core Phablet

By Gogi Rana on March 28, 2013 210 Comments

The Wammy Titan 2 is an upgraded version of the Wammy Titan handset from Wickedleak. The Titan 2 comes powered by quad core processor with a 5.3 inch qHD screen. The handset is priced at Rs. 13,990 (Shipping extra).

Box Pack
The box pack contains the handset, screen guard, free flip cover, battery of 2300 mAh capacity, earphone, user guide, micro USB to USB cable and power adapter.

Titan 2 Design
The design is similar to the other models that Wickedleak is selling. There is a center physical button on the bottom front panel with touch sensitive backlit buttons on either side. On the front top there is the in call speaker, front camera of 5MP resolution and sensors.

On the rear side there is speaker out, Wickedleak logo and 8MP camera with LED flash. There is a nice looking flip cover that fits perfectly well and gives it a more elegant and premium look at the same time gives extra protection to the touch screen.

On the top side there is the 3.5mm jack, on bottom side you will find the micro USB port with mic and on the right side there is the volume rockers and power/lock button.

Display, Memory and Storage
The capacitive touch screen is 5.3 inches with 960×540 pixels resolution. 5 Point multi touch is supported. The touch is very smooth and responsive, no issues whatsoever. There is light, proximity, accelerometer and magnetic sensors.

The RAM is 1GB of which 676MB is free. Of the 4GB internal storage 1.4 GB (1.3GB free) is allocated for apps and another 1.2GB as internal phone storage. You can install apps on external storage. There is the micro SD slot that can house cards of up to 32GB.

Processor, OS and Performance
It’s quad core the same MediaTek MTK6589 ARM cortex A7 as found on the Micromax A116 handset. This coupled with PowerVR SGX 544 gives a smooth performance. The Wammy Titan 2 runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and it will get an upgrade to Android version 4.2.

Benchmark scores

  • Quadrant Benchmark: 3780.
  • Antutu Benchmark: 12939.
  • Nenamark2: 53.1 fps.
  • Linpack : Single 35, Multi 89.
  • Multi Touch: 5 point.

8MP rear and front 5MP camera
Though the camera is of an 8MP resolution there is an option to set it for 12MP. The rear camera is auto focus with LED flash. The picture quality I think is very good; you can check the same images at the end of this review. Probably with Android 4.2 upgrade the camera app may only support up to 8MP resolution.

The camera can record 1080p videos but up to 25fps. The Micromax A116 however could record at 30 fps, though 25fps is still not that bad.

Entertainment and Gaming
The handset can easily play 1080p movies without any lags or sync issues. I tried playing MKV and MP4 1080p videos and both played smoothly using MX player.

As mentioned you can install apps on external SD card. I installed the Nova 3 game on the external SD card and it played well. You can check the brief gaming clip in the video review itself.

Connectivity
It’s a dual SIM handset with dual standby mode. The Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS worked well. The GPS takes some time to get the first lock.

Sound
The loudspeaker is good, the earphone is very good –  the sound is loud and clear. The in call speaker sound is also loud enough.

Battery
The battery is of 3000 mAh capacity as mentioned on the battery but its 2300 mAh (thank to sanjay for pointing out), which will easily last for over a day depending on your usage.

Wammy Titan 2 review
If you look at the hardware it’s the same as on Micromax A116 but with lower screen resolution (qHD) and with magnetic sensor that is missing. Now when you look at the price it is about the same as the MMX 116, but with titan 2 you get flip cover, a high capacity battery, screen guard and a bigger screen (5.3 inches (qHD)).

If your budget is under Rs. 13,000 and if you are looking for a quad core handset, you can go in for the Xolo Q800. For the price and feature the Wammy Titan 2 looks like a decent buy.
