This Apple iPhone is pretty much the same as its predecessor with some areas where the 4S rules. Look wise, the dimensions are the same but the iPhone 4S is heavier by 3 grams. The rear facing primary camera has been enhanced to 8 megapixels which means you will get even sharper shots from a more responsive camera.

This handset supports both GSM and CDMA networks, which is good news for CDMA consumers. The iPhone 4S comes powered by the iOS 5 operating system.

There are some new features that you will see on the iPhone 4S like the AirPlay Mirroring which is available on the iPad 2, and now, on the 4S. With AirPlay Mirroring you can view the output from your Apple device (streaming) direct on an HDTV via Apple TV.

Processor

As we all know that the iPhone 4 comes with the Apple A4 processor. The iPhone 4S however comes with a more powerful Dual Core Apple A5 processor (1 GHz) with dual core graphics. Most probably this will be the same processor that will be featured on the iPhone 5.

Display Screen

The Screen size and the display resolution is the same on both the model which is 3.5 inches with 960 by 640 pixels. Multi touch is supported on both the models. But the display quality is even better on the 4S thanks to the dual core graphics processor.

Size and Weight

The Apple iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S features the same dimension at 4.5 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches however the front look is a bit different which makes it easier to differentiate between the two. As far as the weight is concerned the iPhone 4 weighs 137 grams whereas the iPhone 4S is 140 grams.

The iPhone 4S houses an 8 megapixel camera as compared with the 5 megapixel camera you get on the Apple iPhone 4. The LED flash, front facing VGA camera and other camera features are the same.

Connectivity and Storage Capacity

Both the models feature Wi-Fi and 3G. The iPhone 4 comes with 8GB, 16GB and 32 GB version whereas the iPhone 4S is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions.

Battery

The iPhone 4S can last for up to 8 hours (Talktime) on 3G as compared to 7 hours (Talktime) on the iPhone 4.

Should you buy the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 4 in India?

iPhone 4 has just started selling in India, so the iPhone 4S will take few months before it is officially launched in India. If you are buying an iPhone for the first time then it makes sense to go in for the iPhone 4S (if you can afford it).

Those who already own an older version of iPhone and want to upgrade to the latest one can do so or wait for the iPhone 5. The new iOS 5 OS will work on iPhone 3GS and above. So if you own an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 you can upgrade to iOS 5 and see some performance improvements. If you have the money you can go in for the iPhone 4S with a faster processor, better graphics and an 8 MP camera.
