Sony Xperia J (ST26i) details has been leaked and if the specifications are to be believed including the price tag, this handset could spell trouble for low cost companies in India namely the Karbonn, Spice and Micromax. This handset will be announced in the coming IFA event.
Mobile review website has already done a review of this yet to be announced / launched handset. The Sony Xperia J is expected to be priced at €150 to 160. The Xperia J price in India could be well under Rs. 12,000.
Micromax recently launched the Micromax A100 and the A90 handset. For now the A100 seems to be the best option for about Rs. 10,000. The Sony Xperia ST26i (J) will probably hit the markets in September and a few more weeks to hit the store shelves in India.
Once you go through the specifications you will find it similar to the Spice, Micromax and Karbonn handsets that we have been talking about. Moreover the price difference will play a crucial role. Most users will not mind paying an extra 1K or 2K for brand like Sony.
The Sony Xperia J ST26i is powered by MSM7227A 45nm ARMv7 processor from Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1 GHz with Adreno 200 GPU. Spice Mi-425 runs on MSM7627A chipset and so does many other handsets. If you compare both the chipset there is hardly any difference, both are cortex –A5.
The ST26i further comes with 512MB RAM and 170 MB free internal phone memory, you will need a microSD card for additional storage. The display screen is 4 inches with FWVGA resolution (854×480). Some handsets come with WVGA resolution ie. 800×480. The reason being is WVGA = 5:3 and FWVGA = 16:9 aspect ratio. This is an entry level device and probably will not come with Bravia engine technology that most Sony handset come loaded with.
There are two cameras a front VGA and a rear 5MP auto focus but with VGA video recording. This is what is being offered on A100, Mi-425 and A9. The Xperia J runs on Android 4.0 (ICS) and the chances of getting a Jelly bean update is also high.
Other features included are Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, micro USB and 3.5mm audio port. A 1700 mAh battery keeps the Xperia J going for about 1 to 2 days of moderate to heavy usage.
So you see the handset competes well with the existing low cost models available in India (hardware / feature wise) but for now we do not know the retail price which I believe will be the key decision maker. A small price difference between the competing models will attract more users towards the Xperia J. I believe this handset supports Single SIM.

if this handset comes at around rs – 13000 could be a diasaster to other companies what do u say gogi ??
Punit no doubt, there are 2 classes the high class company and low class company, for low class to survive they need to maintain a good difference when it comes to price tag and features.
Hey Gogi, please suggest me which phone i should go for MMX A100 , LG L5 , Sony Xperia U or Sony Neo L. They are all available on ebay within a budget of 13,000/- but I don't know which one is the best I like sony neo L as it has features and brand too. but the reviews aren't that great on net. please give your opinion fast as I have an ebay coupon which will expire soon.
Brij go for A100 from Micromax or A90 from micromax if you can A90 will give you the look and feel of the Sony xperia handset.
What a shitty comparison yaar. With Xperia Neo L in consideration its really sad that you are comparing in with micromax. LG L5 is just a waste of money!. Both micromax a100 , A90 and L5 are using 1st generation cpu & cpu. Neo L sports 2nd gen cpu & gpu(Adreno 205) far better than Adreno 200 and putting ICS in neo l is no problem official ics update is out!.
Hello Dear, it doesn’t have nfc.
It is announced today….See the link below..
http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57502536-85/sony…
I don't know why do companies make such a nice config under a nice price tag but mess everything up with that under 200 MB internal memory mark. I mean, wtf that's the major drawback, most of the phones under 10-12k suffer this problem, after installing 10-12 apps, the phone starts yelling low disk space. Memory is not at all costly these days they should at least give a 1GB storage in every phone these days.
there is a mistake!….
it comes with 4gb internal storage from which 2gb available for user…..
xperia miro has a 165 ppi pixel density and xperia j has 245 ppi pixel density. so what happen when display density is low?
The higher the density the better the sharpness.
Gogi, have you noticed? There are hardly any differences in the specs of Experia J & upcoming Ninja 4 from MMX. The minor differences are –
1. ICS v/s Gingerbread
2. LED Flash
3. May be Qualcomm v/s Mediatek chipset.
But if you see the difference in price, Experia J is double the cost of Ninja 4.
In short, in spite of so many critics on Micromax in last 4-5 days, 75% of the customers will definitely rush to Ninja 4 when it comes to choose between these two phones.
Its like the game of Cricket. Even if India gets a white wash from England & Australia, we will blame the players like anything. But, during their next tour we will again watch it ball-to-ball & cheer for them.
Isn't it funny?
Ha Ha, yes true, I think for every alternate model the company lowers down the profit. But in the long term they make good profit.
hi gogi bro
which is better for gaming and performance ?
1. 800 mhz cpu + 200 mhz gpu (Adreno)
2.1 Ghz cpu only
can we play HD games without GPU in 1Ghz processor ?
In most cases there will be a GPU this has become a minimum requirement. The higher the frequency the better. A CPU only will not be of much help and may be as good as a cpu of lower frequency but with GPU.
I don't think they will launch it under 12,000 they will go for 15,000. I don't like Xperia Phones because they always problematic like Bluetooth, wifi, screen setting. I have seen these issues in my brother's Xperia S.
@gogi:: nice post.but you have done a mistake in specifications list in the end. you have wrriten the ram is 150mb. i thonk it will be 512mb.correct me if i am wrong.
subrata, hi thanks for pointing out typo error. fixed it now..
