BSNL and Pantel have now launched the BSNL Penta T-Pad IS801C another 8 inch tablet that comes with ICS OS, good features minus the built in SIM slot, all this for a price of Rs. 9,499. The T-pad can be pre-booked from the Pantel.in website.

The T-Pad IS801C is different from the T-Pad WS802C model. The price difference says it all, however the 801C model comes with a higher memory capacity (1GB RAM). And there are certain features that are trimmed out of the IS801C model.

The IS801C is powered by a cortex A8 processor running at 1GHz frequency with ICS (Android 4.0) OS. This tab comes with a 1GB DDR3 RAM and internal storage of 8GB. There is a 0.3MP front camera, G-Sensors, Wi-Fi and microSD card support.

The display screen is 8 inches with capacitive touch technology sporting resolution of 1024×768 pixels. For the price, what is missing, is the built in 3G SIM slot, GPS and Bluetooth. This tab is here to compete with the Micromax Funbook pro. If screen size is not much of an interest, there is one more tab called the Fronix Aurora II a 7 inch with dual core processor for Rs. 6960 (coming soon).

BSNL Penta T-Pad IS801C review

The specs are good but the Pantel services are really pathetic, many of you might have already experienced it. But one thing is for sure, if you want to buy this tab it will take much, much more than the 7 to 15 days delivery promises that many other low cost tab sellers are offering.

  1. I had the misfortune to order this tablet via CoD from Infibeam.com. The price was the lowest at Rs. 8749/- when everywhere else it was over 9K. The product was delivered ahead of schedule, and was packaged well.

The screen is quite good. Performance is smooth because of the 1GB RAM, and internal storage for apps was 1GB. 5GB is available as user storage as extSD. MicroSD slot is also provided. I tried games (3d and 2D) and several apps.

Problems started after 4-5 hours. After charging the battery, I noticed that the display was flickering when scrolled sideways (landscape Mode). Soon after, the tab turned off and stopped responding. It was not turning on and there was no battery charging indicator.

I called up Infibeam customer care and reported the issue. They assured that they would get back to me in 24 hrs. That was more than 72 hours ago. I contacted them three times by phone and once via website. Since Pantel has a sparse service network, I cant take it to the service center either (70km away).

My advice: Buy only if you have a Pantel service center nearby.
