Sony India has pulled the wraps off the BRAVIA 9II, its new flagship television for 2026 and the most advanced expression yet of the company’s True RGB technology. The launch arrives just a month after the BRAVIA 7II, which introduced Sony’s next generation RGB display tech to Indian buyers, meaning the brand now has a complete True RGB lineup sitting at the top of its TV portfolio.

Both televisions are built around Sony’s proprietary RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro, a backlight system that drives red, green and blue LEDs independently instead of relying on a single white LED source filtered through color layers. Sony claims this delivers the largest color volume in its home TV history, along with more accurate color reproduction from wider viewing angles, even in bright living rooms.

What is True RGB technology, and why does it matter

Conventional Mini LED televisions use white LEDs behind a color filter to produce an image, which limits how wide and how bright the color output can go. Sony’s True RGB approach does away with that filter step entirely. Each LED cluster in the backlight can independently output red, green or blue light, giving the Cognitive Processor XR far more precise control over what actually reaches the panel.

The result, according to Sony, is purer primary light before it even hits the screen, translating into richer colors, smoother tonal gradation and more accurate hues at higher brightness levels, something that matters a lot in a country where most living rooms are not blacked out for movie night.

Sony BRAVIA 9II key features

  • RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro with newly developed LED controllers for what Sony calls its highest level of backlight control yet
  • RGB Triluminos Max, Luminance Booster Pro and Smooth Colour Gradation working together to widen color volume and reduce banding
  • Immersive Black Screen Pro, a new glare-free, low-reflection screen coating that deepens blacks while preserving shadow detail
  • Cognitive Processor XR for real-time scene analysis, tuning color, contrast and brightness while staying true to the creator’s intent
  • Acoustic Multi-Audio+ with Sound Positioning Tweeters and Up-Firing Beam Tweeters for audio that tracks on-screen action
  • X-Wide Angle Pro for consistent color and brightness even when viewed off-axis
  • Support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced
  • Voice Zoom 3, powered by AI, for clearer dialogue during noisy or action-heavy scenes

The BRAVIA 7II shares the same True RGB foundation and most of these features, with the BRAVIA 9II adding the more advanced backlight controllers and the exclusive Immersive Black Screen Pro treatment.

Google TV with Gemini and Sony Pictures Core

Both TVs run on Google TV, and Sony has confirmed that Gemini for Google TV will arrive through a future over-the-air update, adding more natural, conversational AI interactions to the platform.

On the content side, Sony Pictures Core continues to be the headline extra, offering near 4K UHD Blu-ray quality streaming through Pure Stream technology, along with 10 movie credits valid for 24 months. Sony has also worked with Netflix, Prime Video and Sony Pictures Core to build “Studio Calibrated” picture modes, so shows and movies show up closer to how the filmmakers intended them to look, though availability of these modes can vary by platform and region.

Design: Harmonic Presence and the Mirage Stand

Sony is calling the design language for this generation Harmonic Presence. Expect a wave-textured bezel and a semi-transparent Mirage Stand that gives the impression of the TV floating above the furniture while hiding all the cable clutter behind it. The remote gets a refresh too, with USB Type-C charging, backlit buttons and a Find My Remote function baked in.
