The Nothing Ear (open) Blue went on sale, and the internet wasted no time responding. Comment sections lit up within hours. For nearly a year and a half, the Ear (open) was only available in white. That was a noticeably short colour menu for a brand that built its identity on bold, eye-catching design. Nothing knew it. And today, they fixed it.

The Blue is Not What You Expect

Nothing drew inspiration from blue tennis courts, workout equipment, retro electronics, retrofuturist interiors, and transparent sculptures by artist De Wain Valentine. The result is a softer, more considered shade than what you’d find on the recently launched Nothing Phone (4a). It’s pretty subdued, especially compared to that recent blue colorway on the Phone (4a).

That restraint is actually the point. The muted blue pairs naturally with the transparent casing that has always defined the Ear (open) design. The silicone hook, the silver capsule driver housing, the see-through case, all of it reads differently in blue. Less clinical than the white. More personal.

Nothing’s official teaser put it simply: “Lots of things are blue: the sky, the ocean, a 1996-era Walkman. Swimming pools, tennis courts, everything by Yves Klein. Ear (open) is blue too.”

Short. Confident. Very Nothing.

What Changed, and What Stayed the Same

This is not a full hardware update or a new model. The same open-ear design and hardware stay intact, including the 14.2mm drivers, AI-powered microphones, up to 30 hours of battery life, and IP54 dust and splash resistance.

Everything that made the Ear (open) worth buying is still there. The open-ear hook design that keeps you aware of your surroundings. The 30-hour battery. The AI Clear Voice Technology for calls. Dual connection, fast charging via USB-C, Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair. All of it.

The only thing Nothing changed is the one thing a lot of buyers were waiting for.

Why People Are Loving the Blue

Community reaction has been immediate. “Nothing does colour drops better than most brands. Hoping this one is more of a deep navy than a light blue,” wrote one commenter on Nothing’s official channel.

The addition of a blue colourway marks the first time the Ear (open) has received an alternative finish, a gap that stood out against the broader Nothing earbud range, which launched with black and yellow options across other models in 2024, giving the open-ear variant a noticeably more limited visual identity from the start.

That gap has now been closed. And judging by the response, people had been waiting for exactly this.

Should You Buy It Today?

If you’ve been eyeing the Nothing Ear (open) but the white felt too safe, the blue is your answer. Same hardware, same performance, same price. Just a colour that finally matches the confidence of the design.

Open-ear earbuds are a different kind of product. You hear your music. You also hear the world around you. For commuters, runners, and people who work in shared spaces, that is genuinely useful. The Ear (open) does that well, and now it does it in a colour worth noticing.
