Microsoft has unveiled their latest operating system the Windows 10. And it does come with a surprise, users using windows 7, windows 8.1 and WP 8.1 can get the Windows 10 upgrade absolutely free.
The company will be offering the upgrade for free in the first year from the day the OS is officially launched. ‘Free in the first year’ – not sure what this exactly mean. It could be a 1 year period for users using windows 7, 8.1 and WP 8.1 to upgrade for free, and if they plan to update after that period it will come for a price. Or it could be subscription base.
The first thing that you will notice on the Windows 10 OS is the start button, yes itβs back and it is a mixture of menu and the start screen. If you have used the latest windows OS you will be aware of the desktop view and the start menu (tiles) view β on Window 10 they are merged.
There are a lot of improvements command prompt gets keyboard shortcuts, improved windows explorer (tabs added), apps in window store are compatible with windows 10, the new OS got new icons, Cortana (personal assistant) built in and the best part is the continuum that is built in β it can detect changes in the system and switch mode accordingly (for example when using touch and non-touch screen, keyboard removed etc).
The Launch of Windows 10 will not affect the laptop / desktop sales as the WIN 10 upgrade is free. Windows 10 will be launched soon and itβs free for those using Windows 7, 8.1 and WP 8.1. In case if you are still using Windows 8.0 you will need to upgrade to 8.1 and then you can upgrade to Windows 10.
What Prithish said is more likely to be true till Gogi or anyone else provides genuine link for ‘free win10’ for unlimited period for previous versions users. (the impression created by this article)
From the official Microsoft blog:
http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/01/21/the-next-generation-of-windows-windows-10/
I hope it will clear your doubt, still you are worrying about the * mark, pls read the comments section of that blog post.
Once year free doesn’t mean you need pay after one year use of windows 10. It means whoever updating to windows 10 with in a year from the date of final release will get as free. If you fail to update in a year period you need to pay for Windows 10. It is just to accelerate all PC users to migrate to windows 10 to get major user base and developers attentions,
It seems most likely. Please see the link – http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/about?ocid=WIN10_0_WOL_Hero_Home_Windows-10_Null_01
Under the section “Free Upgrade Offer”, see the details. There is an asterisks mark in that section and at the bottom of the page there are the details, which should explain everything.
But accessories compatible with old versions create problem. My good printer compatible with xp, vista not working in w7 n w8. Any help gogi ? Friends?
I have window 8 can I get window 10 free update?
Hi gogi, why windows 8 user can’t directly upgrade to w10? upgrade for first year does that mean after 1st year user will have to buy it if so can user revert back to win8/8.1 if they don’t want to pay.
Harjeet, windows 8 got the windows 8.1 update which is also free, if you have windows 8 you can get it updated to 8.1.
It means 1yr trial version after that if you want full version you have to buy product key. You can install anytime you want you’ll get 1yr from the day of installation like office 365..
Am not sure if it is that way, but we will know when the Windows 10 will be launched. I don’t think they will give trail version.
They giving trial version of windows 10 then you have to purchase π
What are the minimum hardware requirement to run windows 10 any idea? I mean minimum Ram, hardisk space, processor speed etc.
The same minimum hardware that can run windows 7.0.
Gogi currently I am using windows 7 professional edition ( genuine) when will I get this update what is the procedure?
Windows 7 will get, wait for the official launch.
Sure shot to increase Windows 10 marketshare right from the beginning.
2015 is going to be a huge Microsoft year with the upcoming Windows 10 for every device from Phone all the way to (84″ TV) Surface Hub and not to forget Microsoft HoloLens (Groundbreaking innovation of 2015)
Also the ability to play games from your Xbox one on your PC and Tablet remotely is something great.
Did I mention Spartan, its looking awesome.
Yes and the only way to increase the market share is to make it free. I guess the 1 year free period is to speed up the Windows 10 usage.
Are you zeeshan mhaskar from Ratnagiri?
Nah..
I am from Baroda, Gujarat
Yes, I hope so. And also the free period will ensure that bugs in the interface will be ironed out. W10 may be great as an OS(very powerful but also light on resources when you are using it lightly) but the mobile interface is likely to be both buggy and somewhat poorly designed(MS don’t do that part well traditionally) But by getting suggestions from users, MS can incorporate these suggestions into their next edition and make W11 the best OS of 2016 – mobile or desktop
AFAIK Microsoft designs are good on the mobile front. Check out WP and Zune HD.
