HP (Hewlett Packard) has launched the HP 8 1401 android tablet running android version 4.2.2 over a 7.8 inch screen. 1401 comes loaded with Allwinner A31 quad core chipset.

The HP 8 1401 is already listed on the HP US store for $169.99. No word as to when this tablet will be made available in other countries. In India it could be priced, probably at under Rs 12,000. The tab runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Inside the hood it is using the Allwinner quad core A31s chipset (Cortex A7) with 1MB cache coupled with SGX 544MP2 GPU. The hardware can encode h.264 1080p @ 30fps videos. On board RAM is 1GB (DDR3 SDRAM) and internal storage is 16GB. The IPS screen is 7.8 inches supporting resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. There is 2MP rear camera and a front camera of VGA resolution. Both cameras are fixed focus.

HP 8 1401 quad core tablet

HP 8 1401 weight is about 312 grams and thickness is 7.95mm. There are no SIM slots. Key features are WiFi (b/g/n), 3.5mm audio jack, micro SD card slot that supports 32GB cards and stereo speakers.

There are Gyro and accelerometer sensors. The built in battery is 3800 mAh (Li-Po) – HP claims that the battery gives a usage time of up to 7 hours. Let’s see when the 1401 is made available in India and its price tag.
