Google and Glance have partnered to bring AI-powered shopping to supported Android TV devices in India, the United States and Japan. The optional experience uses the TV’s ambient screen to show personalised shopping recommendations, lifestyle content and curated looks.
The feature works around the screen shown when the TV is idle, rather than during a film or programme. Users can choose the Glance ambient experience instead of the default Google Backdrop. It does not mean shopping content appears on a television that is powered off.

Glance AI Shopping on Android TV
Glance brings its AI shopping agent across mobile and TV, with product suggestions backed by hundreds of retailer integrations. The idea is to let users discover a look on one screen and explore products from participating retailers.
The ambient experience includes high-definition content across fashion, travel, food, wellness and other lifestyle categories. Glance also uses AI to create lifestyle visualisations, giving users a way to explore different styles and settings.
Shop the Look and Virtual Try-Ons

Shop the Look connects curated looks on the TV with items offered by integrated retail partners. Users can interact with a look and move to the retailer’s shopping experience to purchase the products.
AI try-on visualisations are another part of the experience. These offer a preview of different looks rather than a physical fitting. Product details, size options, prices and availability still need to be checked with the retailer before buying.
Supported TVs, Availability and Opt-In Control
Glance is available on supported Android TV devices in India, the US and Japan. Compatibility is device-specific, so the rollout should not be read as availability on every Android TV or Google TV model.
The change from Google Backdrop to Glance is entirely opt-in. Users choose whether to switch to the shopping-led ambient screen.
The Google partnership adds another distribution channel for Glance’s TV service, alongside its existing relationships with Airtel and DIRECTV. For users, the main change is the ability to use an idle TV screen for product discovery and shopping, rather than only displaying background images.
