The Apple Watch Series 12 is now on sale in India, starting at Rs 56,900. The big upgrades this year are faster health tracking, a new Readiness score, tougher glass and Apple’s latest S11 chip.

The watch can now check your heart rate in the background every five seconds, while the Readiness score uses sleep, activity and health data to tell you how prepared your body is for the day.

It runs watchOS 27 and went on sale in India on September 18, 2026.

Apple Watch Series 12 Launch Date in India

Apple introduced the Series 12 during its September 2026 event. Pre-orders started soon after the announcement.

The official Apple Watch Series 12 release date in India was September 18, 2026.

The watch arrived alongside the Apple Watch Ultra 4, which starts at Rs 1,09,900. The Apple Watch SE 3 continues to be Apple’s more affordable smartwatch option.

Apple Watch Series 12 Features

New Health Sensing System

Apple has redesigned the sensors on the back of the Series 12.

The updated system uses larger and more power-efficient green LEDs along with a new electrical heart sensor. Apple calls this setup the Health Sensing System.

The watch can now take a background heart rate reading every five seconds.

This should make it easier to catch short changes in heart rate that may happen during daily activities such as climbing stairs, exercising or dealing with stressful situations.

Apple says a study involving more than 1,000 people found its watch offered the highest heart-rate accuracy among the wearables tested.

That is Apple’s own study claim, so independent testing and real-world reviews will give a clearer picture.

HRV Measurements Up to 24 Times More Often

HRV, or heart rate variability, measures the small difference in timing between individual heartbeats.

HRV is often used to understand recovery, stress and overall physical condition.

The Apple Watch Series 12 can take an HRV reading as frequently as every five minutes. According to Apple, this is up to 24 times more frequent than the Series 11.

Apple separates this information into Recovery HRV, which focuses on daily recovery and stress, and overall HRV data for longer-term trends.

Readiness Score Gives You One Simple Number

The new Readiness score could become one of the most useful everyday features on the Series 12.

The watch studies information such as recent physical activity, sleep and vital signs. It then gives you a score each morning and can update it during the day.

A higher score suggests your body may be ready for a harder workout.

A lower score may be a sign that taking things easy, going for a light walk or getting some extra rest could be a better option.

It is similar to recovery features found on devices from brands such as Whoop and Oura, but it is built directly into the Apple Watch experience.

S11 Chip and Audio Intelligence

The Apple Watch Series 12 uses the new S11 chip, which Apple says is its most powerful wearable processor so far.

Rather than simply making apps open faster, much of the extra processing power is being used for health monitoring and on-device audio features.

Apple groups these functions under Audio Intelligence.

FeatureWhat It Does
Sound RecognitionAlerts you when it detects certain important sounds around you
Live RewindLets you replay a short part of a conversation you may have missed
Siri RecapProvides a quick summary of what was said

Apple says this audio processing happens directly on the watch, helping keep conversation data private.

Ceramic Shield 2 Makes the Display Tougher

The aluminium Apple Watch Series 12 models now use Ceramic Shield 2 instead of the older Ion-X glass.

Apple claims the new glass is around 60 percent tougher.

Titanium and ceramic versions use sapphire crystal, which offers even better resistance against scratches and damage.

For a device worn on the wrist every day, stronger display protection can be a genuinely useful upgrade.

Apple Watch Series 12 Display

The watch comes with an Always-On Retina display using a wide-angle LTPO3 OLED panel.

Peak brightness reaches up to 2,000 nits.

LTPO technology allows the screen refresh rate to reduce when there is little movement on the display. This helps save power while keeping the always-on watch face visible.

Apple Watch Series 12 Battery Life

Apple rates the Series 12 for up to 24 hours of normal battery life.

That is similar to the previous generation.

Using Low Power Mode can extend usage to around 38 hours.

Fast charging is useful if you regularly use the watch for sleep tracking. A 15-minute charge is reported to provide up to 12 hours of use.

Outdoor workout tracking can run for up to 10 hours.

Apple Watch Series 12 Colours

Colour choices depend on the case material.

CeramicPearl White, Night BlueSapphire crystal

The ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 is especially interesting because Apple has brought the material back after last using it in 2019.

Ceramic is heavier, though.

The 46mm Night Blue ceramic version weighs 52.9 grams, while the 46mm aluminium GPS model weighs 39.5 grams.

Apple Watch Series 12 vs Series 11

If you already use an Apple Watch Series 11, the Series 12 focuses mainly on better health monitoring and a few new smart features.

You get the redesigned heart sensors, more frequent HRV readings, Readiness score, S11 processor and Audio Intelligence.

Anyone upgrading from a Series 8 or an older model should notice a bigger difference, including the brighter wide-angle display, faster hardware and newer health features.

The Series 11 is still available at a lower price. The 46mm GPS version is currently listed at Rs 49,900.

That may still be worth considering if you do not need the newer Readiness feature.

Apple Watch Series 12 vs Apple Watch Ultra 4

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 gets the same new Health Sensing System and Readiness features, but it is aimed at a different type of user.

The Ultra is larger, tougher and designed for longer outdoor activity.

Apple Watch Series 12 vs Apple Watch SE 3

The Apple Watch SE 3 remains the cheaper entry point into Apple’s smartwatch lineup.

It is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes and uses an OLED display with brightness reaching up to 1,000 nits.

That is half the peak brightness offered by the Series 12.

The SE 3 also misses out on the new Health Sensing System and Readiness score.

If your main needs are notifications, step tracking and basic workouts, the 40mm GPS model is available for Rs 25,900.

Hypertension Notifications Are Coming Later to India

One important feature is not available in India at launch.

Hypertension notifications are designed to alert users when the watch notices possible signs linked to high blood pressure.

Apple says the feature requires additional regulatory approval in India and is expected to arrive later.

iPhone Compatibility

The Apple Watch Series 12 requires an iPhone 11 or newer, or an iPhone SE 2nd generation or later, running iOS 27.

Like other Apple Watches, it does not work with Android smartphones.

If you are also planning to buy an iPhone, you can check the Gogi Tech iPhone collection.

Which Apple Watch Series 12 Should You Buy?

For most buyers, the 42mm or 46mm aluminium GPS version should provide everything the Series 12 has to offer.

The important health features, including heart tracking and Readiness score, are available across the range.

Choose GPS + Cellular if you regularly run, walk or cycle without carrying your iPhone and still want access to calls and music.

The titanium and ceramic models are mainly about premium materials, different styling and the tougher sapphire crystal display rather than extra health features.
