A magnetic power bank that sticks to the back of your phone sounds simple, but it can be very useful when your battery is running low and you do not want to carry a bulky charger. The Xiaomi Ultrathin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W is designed exactly for that. It is just 6mm thick, weighs only 98 grams, and has a 5,000mAh battery inside.
In India, it is priced at Rs 5,599.
One reason Xiaomi has managed to make it so thin is the use of a silicon-carbon battery. This battery technology can store more energy while taking up less space compared to traditional lithium-ion battery designs.
But being this thin also brings a few compromises, especially when it comes to charging speed and overall efficiency.

Design and Build Quality
Most 5,000mAh power banks still feel like small bricks. Xiaomi has gone in a completely different direction here.
The power bank attaches magnetically to the back of a compatible smartphone and starts wireless charging. There is no need to keep a cable connected while using it.

Its dimensions are 98.5 x 71.5 x 6mm, making it roughly similar in size to a small stack of cards.
The body uses an aluminium alloy shell, while the wireless charging side has a fibreglass panel. Despite being extremely thin, it feels quite solid.
Xiaomi offers it in three colours:
- Radiant Orange
- Glacier Silver
- Graphite Black
The magnetic grip is quite strong. Once attached properly, the power bank stays securely connected to the phone, even when lifting the phone with one hand.
However, the type of case you use matters. Xiaomi says cases thicker than around 2.5mm, especially rugged or heavy-duty cases, can reduce magnetic strength.

For the best experience, a thin magnetic-compatible case is recommended.

Charging Speed: What You Actually Get
The power bank supports up to 15W wireless charging, but there is an important catch.
The full 15W wireless charging speed is mainly available with the Xiaomi 17 series. Other Qi-compatible smartphones, including iPhones, can charge wirelessly at up to 7.5W.
If you connect a USB-C cable, wired charging goes up to 22.5W.
The Xiaomi power bank took around 20 minutes to charge the phone from 20 percent to 41 percent.

This is not meant to be the fastest 5,000mAh power bank. Xiaomi has instead focused on making it extremely thin, light and easy to carry.
According to Xiaomi’s own testing, using the power bank with a Xiaomi 17 can increase music playback from around 15.39 hours to about 24.47 hours.
Real-world results will naturally depend on screen usage, apps, network conditions and other factors.
The battery energy is also comfortably below the 100Wh airline limit, so it can be carried in cabin luggage while travelling by air.
Phone Compatibility
This is a magnetic wireless power bank, but it is not limited only to one phone brand.
For the magnetic attachment to work properly, the phone needs either a built-in magnetic ring or a compatible magnetic case.

Qi wireless charging support is also required for wireless charging.
| Brand | Compatible Series |
|---|---|
| Xiaomi | 12, 13, 14, 14 Ultra, 15, 15 Ultra, 17 series |
| Apple | iPhone 12 through iPhone 17 series |
| Samsung | Galaxy S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, S25, S25 Ultra |
| Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold |
Other smartphones with Qi wireless charging may also work, though magnetic attachment and maximum charging speed can vary.
Safety Features
A magnetic power bank remains pressed against the back of your smartphone while charging, so heat and electrical safety are important.
Xiaomi says it has included ten layers of safety protection.
These include protection against:
- Overvoltage
- Overcurrent
- Short circuits
- Overcharging
- Over-discharging
- Electrostatic discharge or ESD
It also includes foreign object detection.
This can detect unwanted metal objects, such as a coin or key, sitting between the phone and wireless charging surface.
The power bank also meets CCC safety certification requirements and applicable safety standards.
Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Extremely slim at only 6mm | Slower than some thicker 5,000mAh power banks |
| Very light at 98g | 15W wireless speed is mainly for Xiaomi 17 series |
| Strong magnetic grip | Thick cases can reduce magnetic strength |
| Wired and wireless charging supported | Rs 5,599 is expensive for a 5,000mAh power bank |
| Multiple safety protections | Wired charging is limited to 22.5W |
| Easy to carry while travelling | Lower usable capacity compared to some rivals |

Verdict
The biggest reason to buy the Xiaomi Ultrathin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W is not charging speed. It is the design.
At only 6mm thick and 98 grams, this is the type of power bank you can leave attached to your phone or slip into a pocket without feeling like you are carrying another gadget.
The magnetic design also makes quick top-ups much easier. Just attach it to the phone and charging begins without having to deal with a cable.
But there is a clear compromise.
There are cheaper and thicker 5,000mAh power banks that can charge faster and may provide slightly better usable battery capacity.
So if your main priority is maximum charging speed or the most battery backup for your money, there are better options.
If you want something thin, light, magnetic and easy to carry while travelling, Xiaomi’s approach makes much more sense.
