Good news for WhatsApp users, the company has announced that it will no longer charge subscription fee. WhatsApp will be free, there will be no charges and the company will not be using any third party ads to earn revenue.
WhatsApp has made this announcement on their official blog which says that there will no longer be any subscription charges – WhatsApp was free for 1st year and after that they did charge the users around ₹55 / per year for the services. In fact in India I don’t think many actually paid the subscription charges and in most cases WhatsApp automatically extended the free services for another year.
According to the company many users in India were not comfortable with the subscription option and they found that it did not work well in India.
Well from now WhatsApp is totally free, there will be no subscription charges, the app has already been updated to remove any such options.
Moreover the company will soon allow users to communicate with organization and businesses like for example Banks, Airline / Railway services.
