The Redmi 4A has been launched and the first sale will be on 23rd March from 12PM onwards. It will be nothing like a flash sale, the units are going to sell like hot cake. This Redmi 4A review will I believe will increase your temptation to get one.

Redmi 4A box pack contains handset, SIM tray Pin, user manual, warranty card, data cable and travel charger 5V/1A. SAR Value : 0.596 W/Kg.

Redmi 4A Design, Display and OS

The Redmi 4A is packed inside a plastic body, with metallic finishing. Build is very good considering the price. But the best thing I liked is the dimensions and weight. It fits perfectly in my palm and the weight is just about 130 grams.

Redmi 4A box pack

This is a dual SIM (Hybrid) handset you can use Micro SIM + micro SD card / Nano SIM. 4G with VoLTE is supported. Even though this handset is priced at just Rs. 5,999 but for this price it is packed with impressive features found usually on premium phones.

There is LED notification you can even change colors. Talking about sensors there accelerometer, proximity, light, magnetic, gyro and step counter. You can use Mi Fit app and the handset can track your steps (monitor your limited physical activities – steps only). The handset also comes with IR sensor that can be used to control your TV, AC, etc.

Redmi 4A Performance

The 4A is powered by Snapdragon 425 64 bit quad core processor clocked at 1.4GHz with Adreno 308 GPU. Performance is smooth, but when it comes to gaming, performance is not that smooth in high quality mode. Also handset heats up less – max battery temperature I encountered was 38 degrees.

Redmi 4A Gaming review

I played 3 games. Bullet Force worked smoothly no issues, the Modern Combat 5 was clearly lagging. Asphalt 8 was playable in high visual quality mode but the game played well, more smoother in medium quality mode.

Redmi 4A Camera review

There is 13MP (f/2.2) camera on the back with LED flash support and front camera is a 5MP (f/2.2) shooter.  Camera quality is average looks good on phone but not that great on PC. The handset can shoot Full HD videos.

Others

There is no finger print sensor. This handset supports dual app wherein you can have 2 whatsapp accounts on a single phone, same with Twitter, Facebook etc.

Redmi 4A ports with IR sensor

Sound is loud and clear, no issues with networks or any other issues as such.

Battery

There is 3120 mAh non-removable battery that does a very good job. It takes less than 3 hours to charge and on a full charge you can use 4A non-stop for 6 to 9 hours with moderate to heavy usage.

Redmi 4A Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 17 minutes / 3% / 34 degree
  • Asphalt 8 + Bullet Force + MC5 game play – 33 minutes / 9% / 40 degree
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 22 minutes / 5% / 35 degrees.

It took me 2 hour 45 minutes to charge the handset from 4% to 100% using wall charger.

Fast charging on Redmi 4A : I used a fast charger it took me 2 hours 12 minutes to charge from 11% to 100%. An estimated 2 hours 30 minutes or so, if you check with normal charger there is just 15 to 20 minutes difference makes no sense going for fast charger, unless you already have one.

Verdict

The Redmi 4A is powerful but not for gaming user, Redmi 3S is a much better option. There is a decent price difference among these two handsets. But still Redmi 4A is a very good buy, an awesomely awesome handset for non-gamers and is the best 4G VoLTE supported handset loaded with high end feature with an affordable price tag.

Rating 4.3 out of 5

You can try buying the Redmi 4A on Amazon for just Rs. 5,999 (available in Gold / Grey color option, Rose Gold color will be available later on).
