The Redmi 4A has been launched and the first sale will be on 23rd March from 12PM onwards. It will be nothing like a flash sale, the units are going to sell like hot cake. This Redmi 4A review will I believe will increase your temptation to get one.

Redmi 4A box pack contains handset, SIM tray Pin, user manual, warranty card, data cable and travel charger 5V/1A. SAR Value : 0.596 W/Kg.

Redmi 4A Design, Display and OS

The Redmi 4A is packed inside a plastic body, with metallic finishing. Build is very good considering the price. But the best thing I liked is the dimensions and weight. It fits perfectly in my palm and the weight is just about 130 grams.

Redmi 4A box pack

This is a dual SIM (Hybrid) handset you can use Micro SIM + micro SD card / Nano SIM. 4G with VoLTE is supported. Even though this handset is priced at just Rs. 5,999 but for this price it is packed with impressive features found usually on premium phones.

There is LED notification you can even change colors. Talking about sensors there accelerometer, proximity, light, magnetic, gyro and step counter. You can use Mi Fit app and the handset can track your steps (monitor your limited physical activities – steps only). The handset also comes with IR sensor that can be used to control your TV, AC, etc.

Redmi 4A unboxing

Redmi 4A sports a 5 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and the screen also comes with reading mode and color temperature adjustments. For the price the screen is just too good, awesome.

This handset is running MIUI based on Android Marshmallow.

Redmi 4A Memory and Storage

Redmi 4A comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. On first boot you will get about 900MB free RAM and about 10GB free space. OTG works you can connect external Pen Drives.

Redmi 4A Performance

The 4A is powered by Snapdragon 425 64 bit quad core processor clocked at 1.4GHz with Adreno 308 GPU. Performance is smooth, but when it comes to gaming, performance is not that smooth in high quality mode. Also handset heats up less – max battery temperature I encountered was 38 degrees.

Redmi 4A Gaming review

I played 3 games. Bullet Force worked smoothly no issues, the Modern Combat 5 was clearly lagging. Asphalt 8 was playable in high visual quality mode but the game played well, more smoother in medium quality mode.

Redmi 4A Camera review

There is 13MP (f/2.2) camera on the back with LED flash support and front camera is a 5MP (f/2.2) shooter.  Camera quality is average looks good on phone but not that great on PC. The handset can shoot Full HD videos.

There is no finger print sensor. This handset supports dual app wherein you can have 2 whatsapp accounts on a single phone, same with Twitter, Facebook etc.

Redmi 4A ports with IR sensor

Sound is loud and clear, no issues with networks or any other issues as such.

There is 3120 mAh non-removable battery that does a very good job. It takes less than 3 hours to charge and on a full charge you can use 4A non-stop for 6 to 9 hours with moderate to heavy usage.

Redmi 4A Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 17 minutes / 3% / 34 degree
  • Asphalt 8 + Bullet Force + MC5 game play – 33 minutes / 9% / 40 degree
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 22 minutes / 5% / 35 degrees.

It took me 2 hour 45 minutes to charge the handset from 4% to 100% using wall charger.

Fast charging on Redmi 4A : I used a fast charger it took me 2 hours 12 minutes to charge from 11% to 100%. An estimated 2 hours 30 minutes or so, if you check with normal charger there is just 15 to 20 minutes difference makes no sense going for fast charger, unless you already have one.

The Redmi 4A is powerful but not for gaming user, Redmi 3S is a much better option. There is a decent price difference among these two handsets. But still Redmi 4A is a very good buy, an awesomely awesome handset for non-gamers and is the best 4G VoLTE supported handset loaded with high end feature with an affordable price tag.

Rating 4.3 out of 5

You can try buying the Redmi 4A on Amazon for just Rs. 5,999 (available in Gold / Grey color option, Rose Gold color will be available later on).

  1. Hi gogi,

Can you also check whether the phones that you review supports video over LTE or not.
Does redmi 4A supports Video over LTE?

    1. There is no video call option from dialer but if you need that you will need to use Jio4voice app.

      1. click any contact name in phonebook then u see video call options i have 3s it not show video call option in dialer but it show in pb on any contact.
and last gogi please provide information about native/carrier video calling in smartphones review like before.

  2. Sir,I mistakenly charged my Redmi 4A with a Samsung S6 edge fast charger. It was on charge for about 10-15mins. Then my friend told that never to charge a normal phone with fast charger. I’m now getting very nervous and palpitations regarding thr battery life. I dont whether it’s my mind issues or not,the battery drained out from 75% to 65% in an hour with minimal usage. Sir is this normal? Please help.

  7. I just want to buy a decent camera phone in low price. Now my question is that is the camera of redmi 3s(2gb) and redmi 4a are the same????

  8. Wowwwww, finally after seen this video I realize that this mobile is the best. Nd it will be good for my Dad … Bcoz I have to give birthday gift to my dad and I was confused between Redmi 4A and Redmi 3S. But after seen this video my confusion is solved.. Thank u … Very much.

    1. No way Bro, Redmi 3s is better in every aspect and 1k price difference is more than justified…..

  11. Can it replace Redmi 1S( the game changer which i hv it now) or not !
The camera quality is ok na !!

    U r reviews r very good.

I bought all the mobiles, by seeing all ur mobile reviews since 2014.

    1. Go for motorola phones
it is far better than redmi phones in camera, display and sound
price is nearly higher but you got better camera clarity than redmi.

  12. one query Gogi – can it do a bit of multi tasking? ordered one. Will cancel based on your reply. I am only looking for solid performace. Not much into gaming. Thanks.

      1. Thanks Gogi for the prompt response. I will be getting rid of my 3 year old Moto G first Gen. Does the Redmi 4A make a sensible upgrade?

      1. To begin with, Moto has stock android and xiaomi has custom baked user interface. People who like stock will not go to xiami even if offered free. However reverse will be very rare situation.

  13. Phone is good, no doubt. Only issue is the hybrid SIM slot and the 16 GB only internal storage. If you are someone who stores lot of data in SD Card or internal memory and want to use 2 SIMs at a same time then you’re out of luck. I’ve over 40 GB of data stored on my 64GB Memory Card and I hate hybrid SIM slots. Even 32GB or 64GB internal memory isn’t sufficient for me.. and don’t like connecting OTG all the time just to access my data. ?

  14. I think you used the word of “Awesome” only two times.
    1. At the time of review of “Infocus M2”
    2. Now Redmi 4A
    Am I correct Gogi Bro?

        1. I am missing my InFocus M2 after I dropped it in water and then plugged it into charge, short circuit happened and phone became dead.. What an awesome phone it was. Display, Camera, Sound, User Interface, Everything was great. Unfortunately InFocus has lost the track it seems.. ?

        2. Yes bro infocus became silent!!!strange!!!they were launching good mobiles but as so long no new device from them

  15. Bro i hv read on some sites that it supports fast charging please confirm n let me know and also tell me about which version it has Qualcomm 2.0 or 3.0 fast charging???
Btw i know that it does not come with fast charger in the box.

  16. Good and helpful review. Definitely helped me to decide between 4A and 3S. Thanks once again for the info

  17. Very good review Gogi bro! I think Xiaomi is the only company who has caught nerve of Indian market. Their quality of products is always superior & they listen to consumers. eg. They provide all necessary sensors, hardware navigation keys, great display, MIUI classic interface with tonns of customisation. Now they are improving after sales. Xiaomi will rule Indian mobile market for sure.

  18. Gogiji apke reviews kafi achhe hote hain, kya aap Earphone pe sound quality check karke bata sakte hain ki kesa hai quality/bass/depth? RN4 ka toh kafi achha hai, (9 out of 10, Google play music app pe, sare settings enhance karke isi app k andar) uske comparison me ye kesa hai? Plz let me know, I wanna buy this one as my secondary phone.

    1. Settings k andar v sounds ka setting hota hai apko pata hai, lekin wo srf music app pe kaam karta hai, lekin google play music app pe nahi, iss bar Redmi note 4 me inlogo ne settings dala hai, jiski wajah se iss phone ka sound kafi achha hai. Mai janna chahta hu ki kya yesb redmi 4A me v hai?

    2. All redmi phones have very good earphone output, it works great with any earphone and excellent when you use Mi pro HD / Pro headphones.

  19. Post the review video explanation in english. Hindi doesn’t know to all. Then u did u published the article news only in english?

  20. A Fantastic Option
the best smartphone of the first half of 2017, the Redmi remains a fantastic piece of hardware. It’s a bit cheaper than the other phones, and the design is far more attractive. You’re still getting excellent performance, battery life, and camera, It also doesn’t explode like iPhone and Samsung ??

  21. Thanks Gogi bro for the review… your review is better than others, and thanks again for clearing my doubts. I planning to buy this one.

  22. Excellent review gogi. I think there is a typo in antutu 2nd time reading. Plz check.

  23. Gogi, I am going to buy my first 4G phone, shall I buy this one or 3s ? am a non-gamer, heavy bowser, my requirement is long battery life… reply me..

  24. This smartphone is really good.
But iski price range India me Rs. 5500/- se kam hota to aur achchha hota.

  25. gogi sir, u say 4a is awesome for nongamers with a significant price difference when compared to 3s. But for that 1k difference we are getting a significant upgrade in cpu and battery. So even for nongamers isnt 3s a better deal than 4a? am i missing something between differences of 4a and 3s?
And please if possible do a comparision article between the two

  26. Review bhi Awesome!
Bht punya kama rhe ho sir itni help karke ,,,?

Aur aapne charging time me 2 hour 45 hours likh dia h

  27. As usual Nice realistic review brother !! Can you guess when redmi 4 prime will launch in India, will it come with 4/64 gb version.

    1. Redmi 4X is hit in China hope they will release in India….& even Redmi note 4X is also success there.why they delaying in India???

    1. Not really stay with 3S unless you really want to go with 4A, do note this Redmi 4A is for non-gamers.

  28. Hi gogi,
Very good review as usual. This will be the perfect secondary smartphone and very good buy for the first time smartphone users. If this would have been released on sep with jio this would have been unbeatable at that time.

    1. Yes very good for first time, very good for those who broke their expensive smartphones and needs some cheap alternative and also very good for those who are looking for a backup phone.

    2. very true, wish this was launched during initial days of gio happy new year offer…a perfect time to buy low cost volte phone, in place of stupid lyf handsets.
