Smart Classrooms: Shaping the Future of Learning
The introduction of smart classrooms is not just a step but a leap towards modernizing education. These classrooms are designed to make learning interactive, engaging, and future-ready. Equipped with computers, laptops, interactive smart TVs, and curated digital content, the classrooms will enable students to learn beyond traditional textbooks, bridging the digital divide for children in underserved communities.

The initiative also includes dedicated digital classrooms and skill-development equipment, ensuring holistic growth that blends academic knowledge with real-world skills.
District-Wise Implementation of the Project
The programme will cover five key districts in Uttar Pradesh, strategically chosen to maximize outreach and inclusivity:
- Lucknow – 10 schools
- Ayodhya – 10 schools
- Varanasi – 10 schools
- Gorakhpur – 8 schools
- Agra – 6 schools
By targeting these educationally significant regions, OPPO India and its partners aim to ensure equitable digital access to children across urban and semi-urban clusters.
Inauguration of the First Smart Classroom
The first smart classroom under this initiative was inaugurated at Primary School, Bhaja Kheda, Lucknow, marking a historic milestone in the journey towards digital education. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries, including:
- Shri Deepak Kumar, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Basic & Secondary Education, Uttar Pradesh
- Shri Awanish K Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
- Mr. Rakesh Bhardwaj, Director, OPPO India

This collaboration reflects a public-private synergy aimed at scaling educational innovation across the state.
Government’s Commitment to Educational Transformation
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Deepak Kumar highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in education:

“The state government is making significant progress in enhancing learning outcomes. Surveys like ASER have reflected a measurable improvement in children’s learning levels. Initiatives such as NIPUN Bharat and Operation Kayakalp are already strengthening infrastructure and learning processes. The addition of Smart Classes will further boost academic performance through ICT integration and peer learning.”
He also noted that schools across the state will soon be equipped with Atal Tinkering Labs, complementing the digital classrooms provided by OPPO India.
OPPO India’s Vision: Technology as an Enabler
Mr. Rakesh Bhardwaj, Director of OPPO India, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to empowering youth through technology:
“At OPPO India, we believe that technology is a powerful enabler for the next generation. This initiative builds on our collaborations with Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) and reinforces our mission to foster digital inclusion, skill-building, and technical knowledge. By creating smart classrooms, we aim to unlock student potential and advance future-ready learning outcomes.”
This partnership represents OPPO’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy of aligning technology with social impact.
Teacher Training and Community Engagement
The success of smart classrooms depends not only on infrastructure but also on the educators and communities they serve. As part of the initiative:
- Over 80 teachers will undergo specialized training to integrate digital tools into their teaching methodologies.
- Motivational sessions will be organized for students and parents to create awareness about the importance of digital literacy.
- The programme will also focus on peer learning models, encouraging collaboration among students through interactive projects and group learning activities.
By strengthening both teachers and parents, the programme ensures sustainability and long-term impact.
Bridging the Digital Divide in Education
The digital divide has been a long-standing challenge in India’s educational landscape. With this initiative, OPPO India, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and UMMEED NGO are making a concerted effort to bring technology to the grassroots level.
For many students in rural and underserved areas, this will be their first exposure to advanced digital tools—a transformative experience that equips them with essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy.
Integration with National Education Initiatives
This initiative complements national programmes such as:
- NIPUN Bharat – focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy
- Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan – aiming at holistic education from pre-primary to senior secondary levels
- Digital India Mission – bridging digital gaps in education and governance
By aligning with these schemes, the smart classrooms amplify government objectives, ensuring scalability and consistency.
Impact on Students and Local Communities
The project will positively influence nearly 5,000 students, offering them:
- Access to modern learning tools beyond conventional classrooms
- Improved comprehension through interactive, project-based teaching
- Exposure to real-world applications via digital experiments and life skill modules
Communities will also benefit as parents become more engaged in their children’s education and more aware of the opportunities digital literacy brings.
A Model for Other States to Replicate
With its structured implementation, measurable outcomes, and collaborative model, the OPPO India–Uttar Pradesh government initiative could serve as a blueprint for other states in India. By demonstrating the scalability and success of smart classrooms, this project highlights how public-private partnerships can transform the educational landscape at scale.
Conclusion: Towards a Digitally Empowered Education System
The establishment of 44 smart classrooms across Uttar Pradesh is more than an infrastructural upgrade—it is a commitment to the future of India’s children. By integrating technology into classrooms, empowering teachers, and involving communities, OPPO India and its partners are ensuring that every child, regardless of background, gets access to equal and modern educational opportunities.
This initiative not only aligns with India’s vision of becoming a digitally empowered knowledge economy but also lays the foundation for nurturing future-ready citizens who can thrive in an increasingly digital world.
