A car starts losing value as soon as it leaves the showroom. The difficult part is knowing how much it may be worth a few years later. Kia India is trying to make that clearer with its expanded Kia Assured Buyback Programme. The plan covers eligible petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid and electric models. Kia says ICE vehicles can get an assured residual value of up to 75% after 3 years, while EVs can get up to 70%.
In simple words, buyers can know a pre-decided future value for the car at the time of purchase instead of waiting three years to find out what the resale market offers.

What Does Assured Buyback Mean?
An assured buyback fixes a future value for the vehicle when you buy it. At the end of the selected period, the car may be bought back at that agreed value if all programme conditions are met.
Residual value simply means the estimated value left in the car after a certain number of years. For example, if a vehicle keeps 75% of its value after three years, the value lost during that period is 25%.

ICE means Internal Combustion Engine. This includes cars running on petrol, diesel or CNG, unlike a battery-powered electric vehicle.
Kia announced the wider programme on 9 October 2026. Buyers need to enrol through an authorised Kia dealer when purchasing the vehicle.

How Does a Car Buyback Work? A Simple Example
Here is an easy example. Assume the programme calculates the assured value on a Kia SUV priced at ₹12 lakh.
| Plan Detail | Example Value |
|---|---|
| Car price used for calculation | ₹12,00,000 |
| Tenure chosen | 3 years |
| Assured residual value (up to 75%) | Up to ₹9,00,000 |
| Approximate value lost over 3 years | Around ₹3,00,000 |
This is only an example. The actual assured buyback amount will depend on the model, variant, tenure, mileage plan and the programme terms.
Kia has not specified which vehicle price is used to calculate the percentage. It is worth asking the dealer to clearly mention the final buyback amount in writing before enrolling.
Why Mileage and Tenure Matter
The programme offers different mileage bands so buyers can choose one that matches their real usage. Someone driving to work every day may cover around 15,000 km a year, while a weekend driver could stay well below 10,000 km.
A shorter tenure and lower annual mileage will usually be the combination most likely to qualify for the highest residual value. If you drive more or keep the vehicle longer, the assured percentage may be lower than the maximum 75% figure.
Do not pick an unrealistically low mileage band just to chase a better number. Crossing the agreed mileage limit can affect the final buyback value.
Why Kia Resale Value Matters for Buyers
Resale value is an important part of buying a car in India, along with mileage, features and safety. Brands such as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have traditionally enjoyed a strong reputation in this area.
By fixing a future value at the start, Kia reduces some of the uncertainty around resale. It can also make upgrading easier because buyers have a clearer idea of how much their current Kia may contribute towards the next car.
Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Kia India, said customers increasingly want more certainty about future vehicle value and an easier upgrade process.
What This Means for Kia EV Buyers
Electric car buyers often worry about future resale value because battery condition, faster technology changes and newer models can make used EV prices difficult to predict.
An assured residual value of up to 70% after 3 years for Kia EVs can reduce some of that uncertainty. This could be useful for buyers considering models such as the Kia Syros EV or Carens Clavis EV.

Important Terms to Check Before You Sign Up
The buyback programme is operated independently by a programme partner rather than directly by Kia India. Kia dealers provide access to the programme.
So the final rules for enrolment, vehicle condition, valuation, eligibility and settlement will depend on the agreement with that programme partner. These are the questions worth asking at the dealership:
| Question to Ask | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Which price is the buyback percentage based on? | Ex-showroom and on-road prices can differ by a large amount |
| What condition must the car be in? | Dents, accident history or missed services could affect the value |
| Is there an enrolment fee? | It adds to the total cost of owning the car |
| What happens if I cross the mileage limit? | Higher mileage may reduce the final payout |
| Do I need to buy another Kia to use the assured value? | Some buyback programmes are linked to an upgrade |
Accessories That Can Help Keep the Car in Better Shape
Vehicle condition can matter during final valuation, so protecting the cabin and exterior from regular wear may help over the ownership period.
| Accessory | Why It Helps | Buy Link |
|---|---|---|
| 3D Car Floor Mats | Helps protect the original floor from mud, water and spills | See latest price |
| Car Seat Covers | Helps keep factory upholstery cleaner for longer | Explore options |
| Dash Cam | Can provide video evidence after an accident or dispute | View deals |
| Portable Tyre Inflator | Makes it easier to maintain the correct tyre pressure | Check price on Amazon |
| Car Vacuum Cleaner | Useful for quick and regular interior cleaning | Shop now |

The Bigger Picture for Kia Buyers
Kia has had a busy year in India with new variants and strong sales activity. The recently launched Kia Carens CNG starting at ₹12.11 lakh is one of the CNG options that can now come under this wider buyback programme.
Assured buyback plans have been more common in the luxury car market. Bringing a similar idea to mass-market models such as the Sonet and Syros could encourage other brands to offer comparable programmes.
For buyers, the biggest benefit is simple: you get more clarity about the car’s future value from day one. Just make sure the exact price base, mileage limits, vehicle-condition rules and final assured amount are clearly written in the agreement before you sign.
