The Infocus M530 is an octa core powered smartphone running KitKat with 2GB RAM. This is a dual SIM handset with 4G LTE support. The handset also packed comes with a 13MP AF camera on the rear with f/1.8 aperture plus a 13MP AF camera on front with f/2.2 aperture with front LED flash. Infocus M530 is priced at Rs. 10,999.

M530 unboxing
Inside the box you will get the M530 handset, user guide, warranty card, data cable, travel charger (5V ~ 1A), low quality earphone and battery of 3100 mAh capacity. SAR Value : 0.479W/Kg head, 0.59 W/Kg Body.

Design and Display
The M530 has got a plastic body, with metallic finishing. The handset front has got a common look as found on many other handsets, however the slight design change near the volume rocker makes it look a bit different, even the rear metallic back gives a premium feel.

Weight with battery is 178 grams and dimensions are 77.02 x more than 154 mm) x 8.78mm. Build quality is good, it could have been better but nevertheless for this price it is good enough. The side are silver colour – metallic finish and the back panel is violet colour (I bought the Violet colour variant).

Power button is on the right, volume rocker on the left, audio jack on the top and micro USB port at the bottom. This handset comes with dual SIM slots – both slots are micro SIM, and though it is mentioned that the SIM slot 2 supports 2G, in fact both the SIM slots support 4G, 3G, 2G.

M530 sports a 5.5 inch screen with HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels). Viewing angles, colour reproduction and touch response is very good.

There are dual mics for noise cancellation. The M530 comes with LED notification and loaded with following sensors – accelerometer, light, proximity, magnetic and gyro.

Memory, storage and OS
This handset comes loaded with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. There is micro SD card slot that supports up to 64GB cards. Apps by default are getting installed on the internal storage, but you can move some apps to external storage. Gaming data however will be on the internal storage. OTG is supported.

You will get around 1.4GB free RAM and about 12GB free internal storage space on the first boot. The handset is running KitKat 4.4.2 out of the box.

Performance
The M530 is using the big.LITTLE MediaTek MT6595 octa core processor (4x quad core cortex A7 + 4x quad core cortex A17) clocked at 1.7GHz with PowerVR Rouge G6200 GPU. Performance is very smooth, handset heats up when using heavy apps. The max temperature I encountered was 45 degrees – while playing 4K videos for about 28 minutes.

Gaming
The hardware is powerful and I could easily play Asphalt 8 game (got installed on internal storage) in high visual quality mode. There was some G-Sensor calibration issue but that was fixed by simply resetting G-Sensor from settings -> display -> calibrate G-Sensor.

Camera
The handset comes with a 13MP AF camera packed on the rear with flash and a 13MP camera on the front with LED flash on the front too. HDR and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) is supported. The key attraction is the rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. Rear camera can shoot full HD videos.

The camera quality is above average, I was expecting more from it being f/1.8. If you compare the images shot using the Infocus M350 and this one (M530), there is not much of a difference, however when you compare the images shot in low light conditions it is slightly better, more detailed and sharper when using M530. Compare the streetlight image shot using M530 with M350 to get an idea.

You can also check the sample images and videos listed below.

There is LED flash support for front camera not that powerful. The front LED will automatically light up in dark environment. Native video calling is supported.

Others
Sound quality is good, earphone provided is low quality, buy a better one. Sound volume is slightly low but acceptable. There is audio effects option to enhance the output, but again you need better quality earphone. In-call sound is also good, no issue.

4G worked when using SIM in SIM slot 2 as well as SIM slot 1. I am using Airtel 4G (2300 band). Wi-Fi, HotKnot, GPS (fast lock) and Bluetooth worked well.

Battery
There is a removable 3100 mAh battery that gives a decent battery backup of up to 5 hours – continuous moderate to heavy usage. With mixed usage I got over a day battery backup. There was some battery calibration issue. It took me 2 battery cycles to correct the battery %.

Verdict
The main attraction was the camera, it is good but not as good as I expected, I will put it in the above average category. Though I think the camera performance can be improved, we have seen other handsets with f/1.8 aperture doing really well.

Now this handset is using the same big.LITTLE chipset (MT6595 – 32 bit) that is also used on the Coolpad Dazen X7 and the Lenovo Vibe X2. When compared, Infocus M530 is cheaper.

It is still a good buy for the price of Rs. 10,999 – available on Snapdeal.com.
