Sony has brought back its popular RX10 camera series after a long gap. The new Sony RX10 V is now available in India, featuring a fixed lens that covers everything from wide-angle shots to long-distance super-telephoto photography.

What Is the Sony RX10 V and Why Is It Special?

AI Autofocus and 30fps Burst Shooting
Autofocus is one of the major upgrades on the Sony RX10 V.
Sony’s Real-time Recognition AF uses a dedicated AI processing unit to recognise humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes.
The camera can automatically switch between different subjects, reducing the need to keep changing autofocus settings manually.
It also uses human pose estimation to understand the shape and movement of a person’s body. This helps the camera continue tracking someone even when their face is not clearly visible or they turn away from the camera.
For action photography, the RX10 V can calculate autofocus and exposure up to 60 times per second.
Continuous shooting goes up to 30fps using the electronic shutter, and the viewfinder does not black out between shots. This makes it easier to follow fast-moving wildlife or sports action.
There is also a Continuous Shooting Speed Boost feature that lets you quickly change the burst speed when the action suddenly gets faster.
4K 120p Video and Movie Features
The RX10 V is also designed for video creators. It can record 4K video at up to 120fps, allowing smooth slow-motion footage during editing.
Sony’s Active Mode image stabilisation helps reduce camera shake when recording handheld.
The camera includes a Multi Interface Shoe with digital audio support. Compatible microphones can send digital audio directly to the camera for better sound quality.
Another useful feature is Auto Framing. It uses AI subject recognition to automatically keep a moving person or subject properly framed while recording.
More experienced video users get S-Cinetone for cinematic-looking colours straight from the camera and S-Log3 for footage that will be colour graded later.
The RX10 V can also store up to 16 custom LUTs. LUTs are colour profiles that let you preview how Log footage may look after colour grading.
Design, Viewfinder and Battery Life
Sony has given the RX10 V controls and handling similar to its Alpha mirrorless cameras. This should make the camera feel familiar to photographers already using Sony’s Alpha lineup.
The electronic viewfinder uses a 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED panel with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification. The larger viewfinder should make it easier to frame shots and check focus, especially outdoors in bright sunlight.
The rear LCD has also been upgraded and now offers around 1.62 million dots.
Power comes from Sony’s NP-FZ100 battery, which is also used by several Alpha cameras. Sony rates it for approximately 630 shots per charge when using the LCD, giving it considerably better battery life than the RX10 IV.
Other features include dust and moisture resistant construction, dual-band Wi-Fi, USB Type-C connectivity and support for 4K 30p live streaming directly from the camera.
