The S8+ comes with a dedicated button on the left side that launches their new bixby feature. Handset is comfortable to use, frame is made of metal and there is curved glass on front as well as on the back.

Screen (Infinity Display) is 6.2 inches supporting QHD+ resolution – 2960×1440 pixels. Its a curved super AMOLED screen. Color reproduction, viewing angles and touch response are very good. The screen is curved near the edges and almost covers the whole area on the front.

Though the screen size is big, because of the rectangular design and slimmer width it feels like a 5 inch screen but a but a bit lengthier.

You can change the display resolution – there are 3 options HD+, FHD+ and WQHD+. Games work on any resolution, though FHD+ is recommended.

Dedicated buttons have been removed and instead you can use the on-screen navigation buttons. The handset looks unique and different because of the front screen. It looks as if the screen has covered the handset. The screen is curved but I hardly faced any accidental touches around the edges.

Galaxy S8+ Camera review

There is a 12MP AF camera on the back using dual pixel technology and the front camera is a 8MP shooter. Front camera is also AF. Both cameras come with f/1.7 aperture. There are some new camera effects. Pro mode gives you a lot of manual options.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ camera

The rear camera can record UHD (4K) videos and slow motion videos. Do check the samples in the video review listed below. Camera quality is excellent. When recording in slow motion you will need to view that on the handset and save it after selecting the slow motion frames, the saved file will then be playable in slow motion on other devices.

Other features on S8+

Bixby your personal assistant

Bixby is Samsung home made personal assistant that will help you keep track of what is important. It also comes with Bixby camera that is quite intelligent, it detects objects and recommends accordingly. Check the video review.

S8+ Face unlock review

This is a unique face detection technology that works pretty well. Since we all look at the handset screen most of the time whenever we unlock, that is the only thing needed. With Face unlock you just press power button and the phone unlocks. It takes around a second for processing but pretty impressive.

This feature however will not work in dark environment or extreme low light. Face detection also does not work when you are wearing goggles.

You can use Face unlock with finger print unlock.

Finger Print

The finger print sensor has been moved at the back simply because most users would use face unlock and you can use both finger print as well as face unlock. When light is good the handset will auto unlock using face detection and when light is bad you can use finger print sensor.

IRIS

The S8+ also comes with IRIS biometric feature. You can use that feature too for say Samsung Pay etc, and can also be used for phone unlock but every time you will need to swipe to enable IRIS hence not a good option for phone unlock. IRIS authentication is pretty fast and accurate.

Samsung pay

This handset supports Samsung Pay, you can easily make payments using the handset without having to swipe the card, just use app, authenticate and bring the phone closer to the POS. Check How to use Samsung Pay video, listed below.

Samsung SHealth

The S8+ comes with step counter and by default starts monitoring your physical activities i.e. only the steps taken, calories burned and you don’t need a wearable device.

Sound is loud and clear, no issues with networks, VoLTE worked. The AKG premium earphones provided is really awesome. There is heart rate sensor too, on the back.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ battery review

This S8+ comes with 3500 mAh non-removable battery with fast charging support. On a full charge you can expect 4 to 6 hours non-stop moderate to heavy usage. One would easily get a day of battery life with mixed moderate usage.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 10 minutes /4% /  34 degree
  • Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 28 minutes / 8% / 36 degree
  • 4K video play back – 22 minutes / 6% / 35 degree

It took me 1 hours 30 minutes to charge the handset from 5% to 100% using wall charger. Fast charging is also supported using wireless charger.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ review verdict

Excellent premium smartphone that does come for a price but worth it. Samsung Galaxy S8 is also available that is slightly cheaper and comes with slight smaller screen.

A very good buy if you can afford just go for it.

Rating 4.8 out of 5

Samsung Galaxy S8+ is available for Rs. 64,900.

  1. As I find Gogis reviews very practical, after reading this, went and bought Samsung S8, my first ever expensive mobile handset. I was slightly worried because the foreign reviewers had all prominently talked about camera not being better, battery actually being reduced and FP scanner being badly located.

So I didn’t buy online, but from a shop which also gave me a better price than online (44,000). The phone and its features are excellent,

The last line of your review is absolutely on the ball “if you can afford it, go for it”

  2. Dear gogi ji, its the latest trend is full vision or infinity displays so far as long its continues 2018 . So please do review differences between normal displays with full vision bezzel less displays regarding major issues like quality, durability, safety from drop, and some other major issues you thought. Because the next generations goin to this type of displays. Thanking you and hopping on you for working on this.

  3. Gogi my company is giving s8 plus 128gb @ 56000 and wireless charger free. Shd I buy it for 56000. Is it good deal. I always value ur advice … thanks

  4. Samsung Galaxy S8+ with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is now available for Rs. 70900.

  5. Any 20s phone with IRIS scanner and fingerprint scanner -having 4 GB RAM , and FHD display?

    1. take a look at samsung J7 pro, 21k. great features, 1080 p, 5.5, FHD, amoled, dual, volte, 3600 mah, great camera though not a dual cam, check it out. gogi also gave it high marks.

  6. Samsung did a great job with s8+ , gogi g will you review LG G6 which launched recently ? Its a competitor to s8 and available at a price tag of 42000 after bank offers .

  7. leaving aside that misplaced Fingerprint Sensor, everything is good and almost perfect in this phone… Just price is the deciding factor… ?☺

  8. In MI 13000 rs.phone gets 4010 MAH BATTERY THEN SAMSUNG 64000 PHONE why only 3500 MAH BATTERY ??

    1. Mi 13,000 rs. phone don’t have Iris Scanner , Mi Pay , Face Unlock, Bixby , good quality and bigger camera sensor and being a 6.2inch screen phone S8 plus is smaller than Mi 13,000 rs 5.5inch phone.

    2. And samsung 7500 rs phone gets a removable battery and dedicated SD card slot . Why Mi 13,000 rs phone non-removable battery and hybrid sim slot ?
*I’m Not a fan of samsung nor of Xiaomi*

    3. SAMSUNG 64000 PHONE has a 10nm based processor which is more than enough for full day use. Along with optimization done by Samsung this will last more than your MI 13000 rs.phone.

  9. It is good to see gogi bror posting original unedited, images in his website. But i have found a guy in amazon.in who copies your images and and writing. Please take action against them.

    1. Thanks Harsh, can you send me the link to the amazon page, or if you have twitter just post the issue to @amazonIN with link they will immediately take action.

    1. Have so far not got the review unit from company. Though some relatives did buy the iPhone 6 but none have latest and usually if they buy or any of my circle buys it will always be too late.

  10. Touches on the edges are controlled/ignored by the software logic. Nothing to worry about it as it’s a proven software.
One thing I didn’t like is the placement of FP sensor. Rest are good.

Gogi, have you faced any ‘red tint’ and wireless charging issues on this handset!!
If not, use for sometime and let us know.

Surprised to see decreased benchmark scores with decreased resolution!!!!
I thought it has to be the other way around.

    1. No red tint, I guess that issue was in some other country also Samsung clarified nothing to do with hardware just gave more color control.

    2. Lots of user in Korea are reporting the Red Tint issue. But people from other regions are not having that issue. Maybe its in the panels developed for Korea handsets.
Samsung is going to release a new update to control a lot more color options for display in coming week.

    1. Well, I have used face unlock way too long ago….

I used that on cyanogenmod on redmi 1s….

And, that too with… Wink security…

      I.e, until I don’t wink, it will not unlock…

That’s how it was secure…. It doesn’t unlock with photograph…

  11. the screen quality of samsung flagship has been degraded from excellent to very good…..the new infinity display…..

  12. Sad in India no Snapdragon variant,I’ve seen it’s performance in emulation it’s very poor in exenos version, both PSP and dolphin.

    1. Samsung want to use the Exynos variant in its flagship ‘S’ series, but due to patient issues in US, it is impossible for samsung, hence they go with Snapdragon chips for America. Moreover exynos cpu are much more powerful than SD, so we are lucky to get exynos.

  13. best in premium class device

does it has some issue with face lock ?
can it be fooled with a recent photo in facelock
