Performance

The handset performed well, did not heat-up, max battery temperature was 33 degrees. For normal usage this is good but when it comes to gaming the handset lagged. Modern combat 5 game clearly lagged and so did Asphalt 8 in high visual quality mode. Asphalt 8 game played well in medium and was much better in low visual quality mode.

Sound was loud and clear, reliance Jio worked and there was no issues with WiFi, GPS, NFC and Bluetooth.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy On8 review 13MP camera with f/1.9 aperture
The rear 13MP camera is with an f/1.9 aperture and front camera is 5MP shooter. Camera quality is above average. I have attached some sample images below. Rear camera can shoot 1080p videos – the video quality is also great (check video review).

Battery

The removable 3300 mAh battery does an impressive job. You can expect 7 to 10 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage on a single charge.

Samsung Galaxy On8 Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 10 minutes / 2% / 32 degrees
  • Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 31 minutes / 5% / 32 degrees
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 21 minutes / 5% / 33 degrees.

It took me 2 hours 30 minutes to charge the handset from 1% to 100% using wall charger.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy On8 is a powerful handset but not for gaming purpose. Key highlight is 4G VoLTE – you can use your Jio SIM, above average camera and impressive battery life.

If you are looking for brand and not into gaming then the Galaxy On8 is a good option, however for Rs. 15,900 the handset is still pricey.

Overall Rating 3.5 out of 5

Samsung Galaxy On8 is available for Rs. 14,900.

  1. Those pictures are in the vicinity of Millennium Towers, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.

  2. Hi gogi, which phone should i buy between honor 6x and galaxy on nxt please suggest me better phone from 12000 to 16000

  3. Hello Gogi bhai, Happy Republic day, any idea if this model supports move app to SD card, intend to send this mobile to a relative in Africa…

  4. Using on8 for over a month. Really the battery backup of 3300 mah is excellent,>> than 4000 mah of Xiaomi’s. Come on, EXYNOS is a highly power efficient processor,no doubts over it! Although it’s not as powerful as SD soc of RN3. But for average user, on8 is really great & VFM handset ,with superior trustworthy brand value.
Camera is decent as Gogi said above average. Ofcourse gyro, magnetic & Fp,led notification sensors are big let downs, but still manageable. Why are you crying for less memory of 16 gb,hasn’t Samsung given 32 gv card free as a compliment! Come-on,u r using a shitty mobile after all,not a laptop/pc.
Ofcourse you.will say ‘Samsung fanboy spotted ‘ while I’m not one. I am also using xiaomi redmi 1s,a very good quality product by xiaomi. Xiaomi rn3 might be ‘the best’s, I agree, but Samsung is more trustworthy for our hard earned money, isn’t it! Well, you needn’t agree me. Its just my personal preference.
But for those who got my theme, go for it boys! I got it for 13k at launch time with 32 gb card free.

    1. Latest price is Rs. 14,900, when product is launched after few weeks / months the online sites / stores will sell at discounted price.

          1. I bought Samsung Galaxy On8 @Rs.12576 on First day of lunch with 32GB Samsung memory card (1000 flat discount+10% SBI card discount). That was the real deal.. Overall Phone is very good.

  5. My mom is using this phone for nearly a month now and i feel this is one of the best priced phone from Samsung. Bought this for Rs.14900 with free 32gb Samsung sd card makes this a very good deal! Here is my review:
    1. Battery backup is excellent and better than my Redmi 3s prime!
    2.Looks premium in design
    3. Has most of the sensors and features
    4..Ringing volume is bit low
    5. Not good for performance and gaming
    6. Good cameras
    7. Dual sim slot+ sd card slot with Volte support (4g works in either sim1 or 2 as set)

  6. Gogi Bro,

Every review done from your end when u share sample pictures so far I noticed that u don’t wear Watch in your left hand as most do.

Do u remove before snap? Are u Leftie ?

    Just an curiosity. 🙂

  7. Seems interesting, especially dual SIM with a dedicated Sd card slot. If only Sammy had put in a 4000mAh battery like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, would have been a perfect set. Alas.

    1. My mom is using this phone for nearlya month now and guess what? !! The battery backup is excellent. This phone will easily beat Rn3 is battery backup, thanks to amoled display and power efficient processor, but the handset is not good for gaming.

      1. Power efficient processor? No, it is same as Redmi Note 3 in power consumption.

J7 2016, J7 Prime and On NXT have power efficient processor.

And between these, only J7 2016 can beat RN3 in battery backup.

  8. Camera is best super amoled display which is good and above all brand aftersales service
Most people dont play heavy game on Mobile
Over all it is best mobile

  9. Still these companies are going to make it more and more slimmer removing even the 3.5mm audio jack. I heard Samsung S8 won’t be having 3.5mm jack.

      1. Dear gogi… I am getting very blurred pics with on8 even with little zoom… Is camera so bad ? Or I have received defected can? Plz reply

    1. Lolz :))

You just can’t compare the Samsung’s and Xiomi’s quality. Just see the cam quality of both. RN3’s cam is a crap. Anyhow RN3 still wins over papers, but not in real world.

      1. Haha… There is a reason why gogi ji still puts the Rn3 on the top spot….. Yes camera is bettr on the On8… Bt by how much????… People who prioritize camera will definitely get themselves an affordable point-&-shoot if not a DSLR…. & the price bracket at which Rn3 is being sold, it has good enough camera.. & wat to say abt touchwhiz… Dt cartoonish UI.. ???
