Nationwide Mobile Number Portability or MNP is active as for now. MNP is a process wherein the mobile user can keep their existing number and switch to a different service. With Nationwide MNP going live from today, mobile users will now be able to switch services anywhere in India.
MNP was already active before, however with some limitation – users were able to retain their number but only within the circle / state. But now with Nationwide MNP they will be able to do so between states and telecom circles.
MNP One nation, one number will definitely benefit many mobile phone users, specially those who relocate to a new state; they can now retain their number and switch to any service provider anywhere in India. There are about 22 circles in India.
Vodafone Post and Prepaid users can avail MNP. Airtel is offering MNP portability within 24 hours within its own network (for example a Mumbai Airtel user who re-located to New Delhi can retain his number and using MNP switch to Airtel network services in Delhi), and until the portability request is processed, incoming on roaming will be free.
