Lenovo recently launched the Phab 2 Plus phablet in India for Rs. 14,999. Here is a comparison between the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi Max. Both these handsets come with a bigger screen and both carry identical price tags.
Phab 2 Plus Vs Mi Max Design and Display
Both the handsets look the same and since they come with a bigger screen, it is really meant for users who are looking for a device that they can use like a mobile or a tablet. The screen is bigger than smartphones but well under the 7 inch limit – and hence called phablets.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has got a curvy back whereas the Mi Max is flat and gets slightly curvy towards the edges. Both these handsets – the Phab 2 Plus as well as the Mi Max comes with a 6.4 inch 2.5D curved screen supporting 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution.
Memory and Storage
It’s the same on both handsets – 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM + micro SD support max 128GB.
Mi Max is powered by qualcomm snapdragon 650 hexa core processor there is one more variant that comes with Snapdragon 652 we will leave that out as that variant is priced at Rs. 19,999. So the Mi Max Snapdragon 650 for Rs. 14,999 is using Adreno 510 GPU.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus is using MediaTek MT8783 octa core processor with Mali T720 GPU.
No doubt when it comes to benchmark the Mi Max is the most powerful. Mali T720 on the Phab 2 Plus will not be that smooth when it comes to gaming. For normal usage a user will hardly find any performance difference.
Phab 2 Plus vs Mi Max Camera
On the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus there is a 13MP + 13MP camera using laser AF with a f/2.0 aperture and dual tone LED flash. Front camera is 8MP resolution with f/2.2 aperture.
On the Mi Max there is a 16MP single camera with a f/2.0 aperture and dual tone LED flash, front camera is 5MP with f/2.0 aperture.
Hard to say anything about which camera is the best among these two handsets as I have yet to do the review of Phab 2 Plus. But going by the specifications the Phab 2 plus camera quality should be better.
Other unique features
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus comes with Dolby ATMOS and the unique thing on the Mi Max is IR port.
Other common features
Finger print sensor, 4G LTE, VoLTE, 3G, 2G, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth (4.0 – phab 2 plus / 4.2 – Mi max).
Phab 2 Plus houses a 4050 mAh non-removable battery and the Mi Max comes with 4850 mAh non-removable battery. Mi Max has more battery mAh and more powerful, Phab 2 Plus has slightly lower battery mAh and a little under powered. As far as battery life is concerned there should not be a major difference.
Which is better Mi Max or the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus?
After going through the specifications, the Mi Max does seem a better option. The only deciding factor on the Phab 2 Plus will be the camera quality – unfortunately I still need to review the handset to confirm that.
If you are looking for more powerful handset among these two options – the Mi Max is a better.
Mi Max is available for Rs. 14,999.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus is available for Rs. 14,999 with JBL earphones.
