Hyve launched the Pryme in India a Deca Core powered handset with 4G VoLTE support and packed with 3500 mAh battery. The Hyve Pryme is priced at Rs. 17,999. This is Deca Core powered; is the Pryme worth the price?

Design, Display and OS
The Hyve Pryme is using a metal body, weight with battery is 188 grams and dimensions are 154.8 x 79.9 x 8.35 (mm). Handset is slightly wider when compared with other handsets. It is comfortable to use and operate.
This is a dual SIM handset you can use 2x micro SIM’s or a single micro SIM + micro SD card. 4G with VoLTE is supported. There is LED notification and following sensors : accelerometer, light, proximity and magnetic.
Pryme sports a 5.7 inch IPS screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, it is also using a 2.5D curved glass for that elegant look and feel. Color reproduction, viewing angles and touch response was very good.
When it comes to OS, this handset sails on Marshmallow Android Version 6.0, it’s stock android and UI is quite interesting.
Memory and Storage
There is 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM. Users can use micro SD card of up to 200GB. OTG is supported – you can connect external pen drives. On the first boot you will get around 22 GB free internal storage space and around 2.5GB free RAM.
This handset is using MediaTek MT6797 Helio X20 1.8GHz Deca core processor i.e. 10 cores. There is 2x cortex A72 @ 1.8GHz, 4x Cortex A53 @ 1.39GHz and 4x Cortex A53 cores @ 1.39GHz. Unfortunately the X20 is not really that powerful. It cannot play 4K videos. Handset heats up but battery temp is under control max battery temp I encountered was 42 degrees.

I did not find any issues when playing games, this hardware can play high end games. I tried Asphalt 8 (in High mode) and Modern Combat 5.
There is a 13MP camera on the back with f/2.2 aperture using Samsung sensor and front camera is 8MP shooter with f/2.4 aperture using Sony sensor. Both front as well as rear cameras come with LED flash support. Primary camera can shoot 1080p videos.
Camera quality is just about average, 1080p videos are decent.

The Hyve Pryme also comes with finger print sensor that is decently fast and accurate. There is also IR blaster that you can use to control electronic devices i.e. you can use your phone like a remote.
Sound was loud and clear, no issues with network, Reliance Jio SIM worked great. Also did not encounter any issues with WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth.
The built in 3500 mAh battery does a decent job. You can expect 4 to 7 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage on a single charge. For mixed moderate usage you will get an easy 1 day battery life.
Hyve Pryme Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)
- Running Benchmark app – 12 minutes / 5% / 37 degrees
- Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 22 minutes / 8% / 42 degrees
- FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 21 minutes / 5% / 38 degrees.
It took me 2 hours 30 minutes to charge the handset from 1% to 100% using wall charger (using USB Type C data cable).
The Hyve Pryme is Deca Core but benchmarks are not that impressive. However when it comes to gaming the handset can play many high end games. Camera quality is average, battery life is decent. For Rs. 17,999 this handset is way too pricey.
