Design, display and OS
The Elephone handset looks good, built quality is very good and so is the finishing. Elephone is light weight at 125 grams and dimensions are 71.13mm x 143.75mm x 7.68mm. G6 is curvy – slimmer towards the edges, back panel is black colour with matte finish and the sides are greyish black, slightly shiny and blends well with the back cover.
This is a dual SIM handset. There is a normal SIM and a micro SIM plus a micro SD card slot. Power button is on the right side, volume rockers on the left, micro USB and 3.5mm audio jack is on the top.
The capacitive touch screen is 5 inches supporting 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Touch is smooth and viewing angles are okay. There is LED notification and 4 sensors – accelerometer, light, magnetic and proximity.
The Elephone G6 runs on Android 4.4.2 with customized UI.

I tested Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5. Both these games got installed on the external storage. Game play was smooth and I did not find any issues. I played Aspalt8 in high visual quality mode.
Entertainment and Camera
The handset can play Full HD videos. There is 13MP rear AF camera with flash and 2MP front camera. The still image and videos are pretty good. Check sample images / video at the end of this review.
No issues with 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Got the first GPS lock in 3 seconds. Sound (speaker / in-call) is loud and clear.
Air gestures and off screen gestures (double tap to wake up the screen, slide etc – when the screen is off) are supported.
You can register up to 3 fingerprints. The fingerprint scanner is on the rear below the LED flash. It will take some time getting used to. The fingerprint scanner can also be used for navigation purpose like scrolling, single and double tap.
There is a 2250 mAh removable battery and the battery performance is average.
|Task||Time||Battery drop (%) (max temp)|
|Running Benchmark apps||24 minutes||12% (34)|
|FHD video playback with Wi-Fi on + full brightness||21 minutes||13% (35)|
|MC5 + Asphalt 8 GamePlay||18 minutes||12% (40)|
|Full wall Charge||About 3 hours||10% to 100%|
A good handset that looks good, is light weight and comes with finger print scanner that doubles up as a navigational button which is pretty cool. Camera quality is decent and overall the performance is smooth. Battery backup however is just about average. With normal usage you can easily expect over 24 hours. But with very heavy continuous usage it will last for about 3 to 4 hours.
You can buy this handset from the links mentioned on the Elephone official website or you can check ebay.in. On ebay India it is listed between Rs. 8500 to Rs. 9800.
