CoolPad Halo was unveiled at the CES 2014 a few days back. This device sports a screen of 7 inches with 1920×1200 pixels resolution. Not sure what we should call it a handset, phablet or a tablet?
Now this is Chinese brand that will hit the Chinese stores with few weeks for a price tag of approx Rs. 20,000. Probably we could see the same handset launched by Spice Mobiles in India.
CoolPad Halo is powered by 1.7GHz MT6592 chipset with Mali 450 GPU. It is a dual SIM handset running on Android 4.2 with 2GB RAM, 8GB storage and external micro SD card support. The handset comes with 13MP rear AF camera that can record full HD (1080p) videos. The rear camera is with dual LED flash support. There is a front camera too of 5MP resolution.
The key highlight is the true octa core processor and 7 inch IPS OGS screen with 1920×1200 pixels resolution. Other features are 3G, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), GPS with A-GPS and Bluetooth. Battery is 4000mAh.

What is the point of 8 core when apps can only work with 4 cores at a time ??
is not it better to invest for a better chipset like high end snapdragon quad core rather than 8 core where only 4 cores can only run at a time ??

Does it support USB OTG?

Heh heh, Sony’s record for world’s largest phablet has been broken! Not sure the battery will be adequate but overall, the device’s form factor might not be such a bad idea. Calling tablets with good specs are rare. Android runs better with a smartphone software architecture, the device looks prettier, weighs less and comes with all accessories like sim slot, back camera with flash which are still difficult to get with calling tablets. It is not clear how far we can trust Spice in general and this product in particular but I certainly hope the design idea catches on. A Lenovo in this form factor for about 17 k in three months or so would be very cool!
