Touch and Type BlackBerry Bold 9790 price and features

By Gogi Rana on November 17, 2011 9 Comments

RIM recently launched the BlackBerry Bold 9790 along with the BlackBerry Curve 9380. The Bold 9790 comes with the traditional BlackBerry styled QWERTY keyboard with touch screen display and a powerful 1 GHz processor. This handset too comes with NFC support.

If you compare the BlackBerry Bold 9790 with the BlackBerry curve 9380 you will find the Bold 9790 is more powerful and the only advantage the 9380 has is the full touchscreen display. A die hard BlackBerry fan would most probably opt for the one with the QWERTY keyboard with touch screen display.

Let’s have a quick look at the BlackBerry Bold 9790 features

  • This BB handset is powered by a Marvel Tavor MG1 1 GHz processor.
  • 9790 comes with 8 GB internal memory, 768 MB RAM and microSD support (32 GB).
  • The BB 9790 runs on the BlackBerry 7 OS and sports full QWERTY keyboard.
  • The TFT capacitive touch screen display is 2.45 inches supporting 480 by 360 pixels (246 dpi).
  • Handset weighs 107 grams with dimension 110 x 60 x 11.4 mm.
  • Near Field Communication is supported.
  • The Media player supports many commonly used video and audio formats.
  • This BlackBerry Phone houses a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. Videos can be recorded and some of camera features are scene modes, geo tagging, image stabilization, 2x digital zoom and face detection.
  •  Other features are 3G (HSUPA: 5.76 Mbps, HSDPA: 7.2 Mbps), GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n UMA support), Optical Trackpad, Backlit QWERTY, GPS with BB Maps, Social networking apps pre-installed and Bluetooth 2.1.
  • The JM-1 li-ion battery gives a standby time of up to 18 days on 2G and 17 days on 3G network. The talktime is around 5.2 to 5.3 hours depending on 2G / 3G network usage. Continuous video playback is around 6.3 hours and you can listen to music for almost 33 hours no-stop.

      Dear janaki,
      This phone does support 3G
UMTS: 2100/1900/850/800 MHz or 2100/1700/900 MHz
      GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
      HSUPA: 5.76 Mbps
      HSDPA: 7.2 Mbps

This phone cost over Rs. 20,000 in fact all high end phones will have 3G. Also why would anyone want to spend big money on a high end phone that does not support 3G.

Thanks for the reply. there must be some error on the bb official site then . . . well if it does support 3G , then which is a better buy, a 9790 or a bold 4 ?

          Dear Janaki,
You can read the bold 4 review here. .

As for which is better I would want to go with the 9790 because the specifications are nearly same.. except for a few like the bold 4 has a 1.2 GHz processor and 9790 has 1 GHz. The display resolution is also better on the bold 4. It all comes down to the price.. If a little speed does not matter and if you are ok with the display resolution that 9790 has go for it more over it is almost 8 to 10K cheaper..

      Hi Satya,

Both Bold 9790 and Curve 9380 does not come with secondary camera, so no video calls.
