Good news for owners of Spice Mi-425, they can now upgrade the Android 2.3 OS to Android 4.0 (ICS). The Spice website had already mentioned that the Spice Stellar Mi-425 handset will get the ICS update and now here it is.
But hey hold on, as per the latest updates on the Spice Facebook page, the ICS version will be available only from the Spice service centers. For now there are no OTA (Over the Air) updates available, so users will need to visit the nearest Spice service center and get the upgrade done for free.
Here are some reasons why you should upgrade the Spice Mi-425 to Android 4.0
- The handset will get an enhanced user interface.
- The battery performance / management will improve.
- Overall Performance improvement.
- As of now on the Android 2.3 version if you are using the Spice Mi-425 for downloading data the other SIM gets inactive. With the ICS update both the SIM’s will be active when data is in use.

Users can find the nearest service center using the http://si2imobility.com/spicemobiles/Service-Center.php URL. It is disappointing to know that the OTA updates are not available which would have made life easier for many users. I believe Spice kept that option out as the OTA ICS update could lead to many issues and would be best if the customers get the update done from the service center.
Now before you head on to the nearest center to spice up your Stellar Mi-425 with ICS, don’t forget to take a backup.

will spice mi 495 will get jelly bean update?
Dear Gogi,
Can I update ICS operating system on spice mi 425 manually without handing over the phone to service centre and whether it will void my warranty?
Please reply
Jinesh, you can do that if you have the Spice ICS ROM. But if you are not sure better get it done from center that way it will be their headache. As for warranty it should not go void if you are using the same ROM that Spice centers are using. But you never know they just need reason to keep customers away.
Thanks gogi, but will they change the parts bcoz they will keep the mobile for one day as informed by spice store.
Plus i hv heard rumour of other service centre like nokia changing mobile parts………..
I have bought spice mi 425 for my wife yesterday, please let me know whether it requires screen guard and where can I update it to ics other than service centre bcoz they will keep the mobile for one day.
Jinesh, yes better get a screen guard and for ICS update you will have to take it to the service center that is the only option available for now.
No its a software upgrade.
Pls review xperia tipo dual.
What do you think karbonn A9 will get ics update, second is both model has same configuration can we use mi -425 rom to karbonn A9?
Karbonn did not mention anything about the ICS update so I doubt if they will be so kind to give the update. The A9 / Mi-425 I think is the same, why do you think Spice is offering the update only via its Service centers and not releasing the ROM updates online!
can we hope for stellar craze ics upgration?
Hi Gogi,
If I buy this now, will it come with ICS installed? I need a mobile which is around 3.8 to 4 inch with ICS.
Srini, Possibly the newest stock may come with ICS, but shops and online stores may still be having the 2.4 version.
GOD DAMN IT..The big companies don't update their phones and these small companies keeps up to date.
Wow this is really good news. I wished Spice had come with the OTA update, but anyway when I get time I will check out the spice store and get this 4.0 update.
Spice outdoes itself yet again cheers.
