Kia Sorento Hybrid and Diesel Engine Options

One of the biggest additions is the Kia Sorento Hybrid, which is Kia India’s first Hybrid offering.

A Hybrid vehicle uses a petrol engine together with an electric motor and battery. The system can use electric assistance during regular driving to improve efficiency, and the battery does not need external charging.

The Sorento Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre Smartstream Turbo GDI petrol engine.

The engine produces 180 PS and 265 Nm, while the electric motor adds 65 PS and 264 Nm.

Power is sent through a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Diesel version uses a 2.2-litre Smartstream diesel engine producing 193 PS and 442 Nm.

It comes with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Kia also claims that the Sorento is the first SUV in its segment to offer a Hybrid engine with All-Wheel Drive.

Both Diesel and Hybrid versions can be equipped with AWD, depending on the variant.

Drivers also get dedicated Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes for different road conditions.

Kia AI Assistant Makes Its Global Debut in India

Another important feature of the new Sorento is the Kia AI Assistant.

The India-spec Sorento is the first Kia vehicle globally to get this new conversational Generative AI system.

Unlike traditional voice assistants that depend on fixed commands, the new system can understand more natural conversations and respond to follow-up questions.

It can also access real-time information from the internet.

The assistant can even use information from the vehicle’s owner’s manual to explain functions and features.

Users can activate it by saying “Hey Kia”.

The voice assistant can also control vehicle functions such as the air-conditioning and windows.

Other connected features include Remote Vehicle Immobilization and Kia Connect 2.0, which offers more than 85 connected-car functions.

The Sorento also supports OTA software updates for 30 controllers.

Other features include Digital Key 2.0, wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Kia is also introducing personalised display themes in India. Buyers get nine themes based on Disney, Marvel and Pixar characters for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.

Kia Sorento Dimensions and Exterior Design

The Kia Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height, including the roof rails.

Its wheelbase measures 2,815 mm.

Kia is positioning the Sorento as one of the largest SUVs in its segment based on overall dimensions.

At the front, the SUV gets Kia’s Digital Tiger Face design, along with Crystal Cube LED projection headlamps.

It also features Star Map LED daytime running lights with sequential turn indicators.

Similar Star Map LED styling is used for the rear lights.

Depending on the variant, buyers can choose between 18-inch Sporty Crystal Cut alloy wheels and 19-inch Premium Crystal Cut alloy wheels.

The SUV also gets satin chrome skid plates and additional chrome detailing around the body.

Kia is offering a new Black Line trim with the Sorento.

This version replaces several chrome elements with darker styling, including black badges, black alloy wheels and black body garnish, giving the SUV a sportier appearance.

Kia Sorento Interior and Technology

Inside, the Sorento gets a premium cabin dominated by the Panoramic Curved Display Panel.

It combines a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with a separate 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

A head-up display projects important information such as speed and navigation instructions onto the windscreen, reducing the need for the driver to look away from the road.

The Sorento also gets an Advanced Digital IRVM.

This rear-view mirror can work as a regular mirror or display a live video feed from the rear camera, helping improve visibility when passengers or luggage block the normal rear view.

Two interior colour combinations are available.

Most variants get a Smoky Black and Grey cabin.

The top HTX trim is also available with a more premium Black and Olive Brown interior.

Other cabin highlights include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and 64-colour ambient lighting.

Kia Sorento 6-Seater and 7-Seater Options

The Kia Sorento is available as both a 6-seater and a 7-seater.

One of its more interesting comfort features is ventilated second-row seating.

Ventilated seats use small fans inside the seat to circulate air and help keep passengers comfortable, especially during hot weather.

Both the front and second-row seats offer 3-step ventilation.

The front seats also get 10-way powered adjustment for both the driver and front passenger.

Other features include lumbar support, memory settings and relaxation seat functions.

The 6-seat version comes with individual captain seats in the second row.

These seats support sliding, reclining and walk-in access to the third row.

The 7-seat version uses a 60:40 split second-row bench.

The third row gets a 50:50 split-folding design.

Rear AC vents, sunshade curtains and USB Type-C charging ports across all three rows are also available.

Kia Sorento Safety and ADAS Features

The Kia Sorento comes with a Level 2+ ADAS package offering 30 driver assistance features.

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and uses cameras, radar and other sensors to help the driver in different situations.

Features include Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist.

The Sorento also gets Remote Smart Parking Assist, which can help move the SUV into or out of a parking space without the driver sitting inside.

Kia also provides what it calls its 26 Standard Safety Package.

The Sorento gets 7 airbags as standard, while the top variant offers up to 10 airbags.

The top model adds rear side airbags and a centre side airbag.

Other safety and parking features include a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitor, 12 parking sensors and five radar sensors.

The Sorento is based on Kia’s global N3 platform, which has been developed to improve body strength, handling and efficiency.
