Lava Qpad e704 review – dual SIM quad core 3G enabled tablet

The Qpad e704 from lava Mobiles is a quad core powered tablet with dual SIM slots that supports 3G and phone functionality. The tablet sports a 7 inch screen and is available for a price tag of under Rs. 10,000.

Box pack
The tab comes in a pretty smart box pack. Inside the box there is the 7 inch tablet, user guide, warranty card, travel charger, data cable and earphone.

Design and Display
The Lava Qpad e704 tablet weighs about 277 grams with battery and thickness is 9.06mm. The back side is silver color with metallic finish and the front is white color with glossy finish. The tab has got the classy ‘tablet’ look and is comfortable to hold.

This tab comes with dual SIM slot with phone functionality; unfortunately there is no in-call speaker. When making or receiving voice calls you will need to use a Bluetooth device, or use the loud speaker mode or use the earphone.

The volume rockers are placed on the right along with the mic. Micro USB port is at the bottom. The dual SIM slots and the micro SD card slot is placed on the left side. The power button and 3.5mm audio jack is on the top. There are no dedicated buttons on the front panel. There are two speaker vents on the rear side. On the rear you will also find the 3.2 MP FF camera.

Screen is 7 inches, color reproduction and viewing angles are good. Touch is smooth and responsive. Because of onscreen navigational buttons the screen resolution is 976 x 600 pixels. There is only one sensor – the accelerometer.

Memory, Storage and OS
The Qpad e704 comes packed with 1GB RAM and 4GB storage. 0.98GB is assigned for apps and 1.68GB as phone storage. Free RAM on first boot is 875MB. Apps can be moved/installed on the external storage. There is micro SD slot that supports 32GB cards. OTG is also supported.

Performance and Benchmark
The e704 comes with Broadcom BCM23550 quad core chipset clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with Videocore IV GPU clocked at 430 MHz. The hardware is powerful and worked lag free.

Benchmark

App Result
Quadrant 3403
Antutu 13996
Vellamo HTML5 (1257) Metal (465)
Nenamark 2 41.9fps
Multi Touch 5 point

Gaming and Entertainment
I played both the usual games – MC4 and Asphalt 8. Both games got installed on the external storage. MC4 was pretty smooth. Asphalt 8 was not that smooth in high graphics mode (but playable), it did well in medium graphics mode. This tablet can play full HD videos in H/W and S/W modes.

Camera
There is 3.2MP rear fixed focus camera and a VGA front camera. Camera quality is below average. The rear camera can record 720p video, however that too is not up to the mark. Check the sample images and videos at the end.

Others
Sound is loud and clear. There is 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n) – supports 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz and GPS. All of these worked well without any issues.

Battery
There is built in battery of 3500 mAh capacity. As per the company it will give talk-time of up to 10 hours. I used the tablet for 31 minutes running benchmark apps and playing the high end games, battery dropped by 7% and the max temperature was 42 degrees.

The battery backup looks very good just a 7% drop in 31 minutes – an estimated 4 to 6 hours of continuous usage.

Verdict
A very good dual SIM tablet with 3G support for a price of under Rs. 10,000. The camera quality is not that good (below average) and there is no in-call speaker, nevertheless it is still a good option for the price.

Lava Qpad e704 is available for Rs. 9,599.
