The XOLO Q1000S runs on Android 4.2 with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The handset comes with built in 2500 mAh non removable battery and is powered by 1.5GHz MT6589T processor. The Q1000S is priced at Rs. 18,999.

Q1000S Box pack
Inside the box you will find the XOLO Q1000S handset, screen guard, Travel charger, data cable, earphone, warranty booklet and user guide. In addition you will also find a SIM tray ejector pin (check video review).

Design and Display
The handset is slim – on the box it’s mentioned 6.98mm whereas it’s actually 7.60mm thick. The handset is sealed and there is no option to open up the battery compartment, in fact a 2500 mAh battery comes built in. Even though the XOLO Q1000S has got a slimmer body it is not at all light weight, the Q1000S weight is 162 grams.

The built quality and finishing is good, the front view is almost black, looks elegant. Rear side is black color with matte finish. The silver outline surrounding the rear camera glass is not perfectly aligned and it looks kind of ugly.

There is 3.5mm audio jack on the top, micro USB port next to it, normal SIM tray on the right (It’s a normal SIM slot not a MICRO SIM slot) and volume rockers / power button on the left. The volume rockers and the power buttons are placed slightly towards the bottom instead in the (side) center.

XOLO Q1000S unboxing front

Q1000S breadth is 72.13mm and length is 146.99mm. The handset supports single SIM and sports a 5 inch IPS OGS screen supporting 1280×720 pixels resolution with 16M colors. The touch is smooth and responsive. There is light, proximity, accelerometer and magnetic sensors.

Memory, Storage and OS
The XOLO Q1000S comes with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. Of the 1GB RAM 635MB is available and of 16GB storage 1.97GB assigned for apps of which 1.87GB is available and 11GB as phone storage. There is no micro SD card slot and hence you cannot add additional storage. Moreover I tried connecting pendrive using OTG cable and it did not detect, OTG is not supported. This handset runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1.

Performance and Benchmark
It is powered by MediaTek MT6589T chipset with PowerVR SGX 544 GPU (clocked at 357Mhz). The performance is very good and the hardware is perfect for gaming users.

Benchmark scores

  • Quadrant Benchmark : 4764.
  • Antutu Benchmark : 15498.
  • Vellamo Benchmark : HTML5 – 1502, Metal – 584.
  • Nenamark2 : 51.1fps.
  • Epic Citadel : 56.7fps (High Performance mode) and 27.1fps (Ultra High Quality mode).
  • Multi Touch : 5 point.

Camera and Entertainment
There is 13MP camera on the rear with LED flash. The camera supports auto focus mode, touch to focus, face detection and zero shutter delay. The long shot images are not that that sharp and the close up are good enough I feel the camera quality on the Lava Iris 504q is better than on Q1000S. There is a front camera of 5MP resolution. You can record full HD videos and even play them with ease. There is a built in FM radio (earphone required) for on the move entertainment.

Gaming
Dead Trigger in high graphics mode, Asphalt 7 and Modern combat 4 game play was very smooth. The handset did get heated up when I played these games for approx 24 minutes.

Others
The sound I felt was a little lower that as experienced on other handsets. The in call volume is good, loud and clear. 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked well. I got the GPS lock in less than 30 seconds.

XOLO Q1000S review

2500 mAh Battery
I played some games for approx 24 minutes, the battery level dropped 11 points and temperature rose from 33 to 37 degrees. Do note that at all time the power saving option was disabled. The battery should easily give a backup time of well over 25 hours with moderate usage.

Verdict
The XOLO Q1000s specifications are almost similar to the Gionee Elife E5 handset that I recently reviewed. Both these handsets are priced around the same and comes with MT6589T 1.5GHz chipset, 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. The E5 however is with 4.8 inch screen, 2000 mAh battery and supports single (Micro) SIM.

Performance wise both these handsets are equally good. If you go by the looks, I personally find the Gionee Elife E5 better looking that the Q1000S. Nevertheless this is a good option for those looking for a 1.5GHz MediaTek turbo powered handset.
