Power and volume buttons are on the right side, audio jack and secondary mic is on the top and at the bottom there is the primary mic and micro USB port. This is a dual SIM handset – SIM slot 1 and SIM slot 2 are micro SIM slots with 4G support and there is a separate micro SD card slot.

There is LED notification but the light is quite dim hard to notice. Era 4K is loaded with 3 sensors – light, accelerometer and proximity.

Display

XOLO Era 4K sports a 5 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. There are big black borders on the screen. Since the dedicated navigation buttons are missing on screen navigation buttons will take up some space. Colour reproduction, touch response and viewing angles are good. The screen does come with corning gorilla glass 3 protection.

Memory, Storage and OS

The 4K comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage. On first boot you will get around 3GB to 4GB free space and 1.3GB free RAM. You can set preferred install location to external SD card. OTG is supported.

Era 4K is running 64 bit android Lollipop version 5.1 out of the box.

Performance

This handset is powered by MediaTek MT6735 quad core processor clocked at 1GHz coupled with Mal T720 GPU. I did find the handset lagging occasionally, you will notice it more when multi tasking. Heat up is well under control.

Benchmark

  • Quadrant – 8604.
  • Antutu (64 bit) – 1st time 23981.
  • Nenamark 2 – 49.9fps
  • Internal storage Speed – Read (119MB/s), Write (37MB/s)
  • Multi Touch – 2 Point.

Gaming

I tried Asphalt 8, the game lagged in High and Medium visual quality mode. The game played well in low visual quality mode. Check the video review.

Camera

XOLO Era 4K is packed with an 8MP AF camera on the rear with dual LED flash support and 5MP camera on the front. Camera quality is just about average. Images shot turned washed out. Rear camera can shoot 720p videos, though the handset in general can play FHD (1080p) videos. Check the samples listed below.

Others

Sound is loud and clear, no issues with in-call speaker and the network quality. 4G, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth worked without any issues.

Battery

The main attraction is the 4000 mAh non-removable battery. Battery backup is very good you can expect 7 to 11 hours of continuous moderate to heavy usage on a single charge.

Battery Performance

  • Running Benchmark app – 14 minutes / battery % dropped by 2 / battery temp = 36 degrees.
  • Played Asphalt 8 – for 23 minutes / battery dropped by 5% / battery temp = 38 degrees.
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – for 24 minutes / battery dropped by 4% / battery temp was 36 degrees.
  • Handset charging (wall charge) – It took 2 hours 33 minutes to charge from 19% to 100%, battery temperature was 36 degrees.

Verdict

The only thing impressive on the XOLO Era 4K is the battery performance, otherwise the handset performance is not that smooth, camera is just about average and when it comes to gaming, again not that impressive.

XOLO Era 4K is available for ₹6,499.
