XOLO A600 a 1.3GHz dual core handset comes for a price tag of under Rs. 8000. It is with the same MT6572 chipset running Android 4.2 with 512MB RAM. The key attraction is the design itself. The handset looks pretty impressive  with a unique premium look that stands out in the crowd.

Design, Display and OS
When you talk about A600 it’s all about the design. It is with the same 1.3GHz dual core handset and you will find many handsets using the same chipset. In most cases the price tag is also under Rs. 8,000.

What makes XOLO A600 unique is the design. It will grab attention on the very first look. The handset is all white, glossy on the front and matte white on the rear, even the sides are white color except for the top and the bottom that are silver colored. Overall a smart looking smartphone with good build quality.

The finishing on the left and the right side is a little uneven, and would have been better if XOLO had taken care of that, though it is not that bad, for the price it can be ignored.

The volume rockers are placed on the left, power button on the right and 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port on the top. The handset weighs 137 grams with battery, thickness is 8.98mm, breadth is 66.93mm and length is 135.84mm.

The dual SIM (GSM+GSM) handset sports a 4.5 inch qHD (960×540 pixels) IPS screen. The viewing angles are okay, not that good. Touch is smooth and responsive. There are accelerometer, light and proximity sensors. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean runs the show.

There is micro SD card support and you can install / move most of the app on to the external storage. OTG is not supported.

Performance
A600 is powered by MT6572 chipset – cortex A7 dual core with Mali 400 GPU. The performance is good and without lags.

Benchmark scores

  • Quadrant Standard – 3455.
  • AnTuTu – 10662.
  • Vellamo – HTML5 1614, Metal 454.
  • Nenamark 2 – 37.2 fps
  • Multi touch : 2 points.

5MP Camera
The rear camera is 5MP auto focus with flash and there a front camera of VGA resolution. Long shots and 720p video quality is good, close ups are okay. You can check the sample images attached at end of the article.

Gaming
Do check the gaming video, I tried the MC4 (Modern combat 4) and Asphalt 8, both these games worked pretty well taking into account the hardware specifications. The games got installed on the external storage.

Entertainment
You can play full HD videos (in H/W mode only) though while navigating (when watching FHD video) it lags a lot. 720p videos play with ease in H/W and S/W mode using MX player.

Others
Sound is loud and clear. 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth worked well. You can get GPS lock within 40 seconds (make sure you enable EPO and A-GPS).

Battery
The 1900 mAh battery as per the company will give approx 10 hours of talk-time using 3G networks. I played the high end games for around 9 minutes – the battery dropped by 4 percent. And when running the benchmark apps for around 23 minutes the battery dropped by 10 percent. You can play high end games continuously for about 3 to 4 hours.

Verdict
A600 is with 1.3GHz dual core processor with Mali 400 GPU. We have seen this on many other handsets. All of these handsets with MT6572 chipset have nearly the same specifications; the only difference will be with screen size / resolution and battery capacity. In all of these MT6572 powered handsets; I believe the XOLO A600 looks much, much better.
