Xiaomi and many other brands have started manufacturing smartphones in India, however for now it was just limited to assembling (except power banks). Xiaomi is one of the Pioneers in the Country to start local assembly of PCBA’s i.e. Printed Circuit Board Assembly.

Xiaomi in partnership with Foxconn have announced its first SMT (Surface Mount Technology) plant, to locally manufacture PCBA units in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. At the Supplier Investment Summit Xiaomi made these announcements.

This step would bring in investments of over Rs. 15000 crore and will also help create about 50,000 job opportunities. The PCBA contribute to 50% of the value of the phone, Xiaomi plans to ramp up PCBA production close to 100% by Q3 CY 2018.

In 2015 we extended our long-term commitment to the Indian market by joining the ‘Make in India’ programme. Today we are deepening this commitment with three more smartphone factories and our first SMT plant dedicated towards local manufacturing of PCBA units. Xiaomi is one of the pioneers in the country to start local assembly of PCBAs, and I believe we will continue to play a key role in transforming India into a global manufacturing hub.”
