Xiaomi is in the news once again they were recently fined by Taiwanese officials for misleading consumers. In December 2013 Xiaomi had claimed that the sold 28,000 Redmi handsets within 10 minutes.

Xiaomi declared that 28K handsets were sold in less than 10 minutes in 3 batches (10K, 10K and 8K). However when the Taiwanese authorities cross checked they found it to be less than 28K. The actual sales figures were 9,339, 9,492 and 7,389.

About 1750 had F-codes i.e. they were reserved for some people. And there were some technical issues encountered with those 10 minutes. The flash sales ended without releasing all of the Redmi units. In fact only 26220 units were sold. Considering the technical errors the figure still looks good.

For this issue that violated the FTR (fair trade regulation) Xiaomi were made to pay a fine of $20,000. Xiaomi had recently claimed that 20,000 Xiaomi Mi3 were sold in less than 5 seconds in India. They were also some security concerns regarding their handsets sending data to Chinese servers, Mi India however have given a statement for that.
