The Wammy Sensation comes with a 1GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM and 12 MP camera running on Android ICS OS (Upgradable to Jelly Bean OS). The handset comes with a premium price tag of Rs. 16,000 (shipping charges extra). Is it worth it, read the full review.

Wammy Sensation box pack
unfortunately I did not get the original box pack with the review unit. But I got all accessories and the handset. The box pack contains the handset, Battery adapter, USB to micro USB cable, earphones (red and white colour), 2x 2000 mAh battery and user guide.

Inside the hood

The hardware is what you already know it’s the MTK 6577Cortex A9 dual core clocked at 1GHz with  PowerVR SGX531 GPU. The IPS screen is 4.7 inches with outstanding 1280×720 pixel resolution. The handset runs on ICS OS with 1GB RAM and 4Gigs of internal storage.

The Sensation comes with 12MP rear camera and a 3MP front camera. The rear camera is auto focus with LED flash support. Other features are 3G, 2G, Wi-FI, GPS, micro USB, Bluetooth and 3.5 mm jack. There are 4 sensors namely magnetic, light, proximity and G-sensors.  A 2000 mAh battery powers up the handset, you get an additional spare battery free.

Design
The handset looks like the Samsung Galaxy S3. It is smaller in size (as compared with A110) and a little heavier with good built. The rear side had that big WickedLeak logo that many users, including myself are not happy with. There are 3 buttons on the front side. Two of the buttons are touch sensitive whereas the center button is a physical one just like as seen on the Galaxy S3.

The Power, 3.5mm jack are placed on the top side, micro USB slot on the left and the volume rockers on the right. The handset is glossy white colour on front as well as on the rear with silver sides. This gives it a very elegant and premium look.

Performance
The dual SIM Wammy Sensation is co-branded model – the original model is B92 (you can search for it on the net).  We have seen the MTK 6577 perform well on the Micromax A110, Zopo ZP900 Leader and many other handsets. The 6577 chipset does support max resolution of up to 1280×720 pixels and when it comes to the camera the max is 8MP resolution.

The WickedLeak Sensation does come with 1280×720 (HD) display but with a 12MP camera that is technically not supported by the chipset. Somehow they have managed to increase the resolution thereby increase the file size, however the quality is the same as seen on the MMX A110 and other 8MP camera phones powered by MTK 6577.

Hindi fonts are supports and you can use both landscape and portrait modes when composing a message. GPS worked well I got a lock within 10 seconds.

Sound output in loud, in call speaker output is clear.  There is video call option. The webpage rendering is pretty smooth. In all the handset fits perfectly well in my palm (at least) and since I have been using the A110 for a longer time it was a delight using the sensation handset, single handed.

  • 492MB internal storage for apps with 297MB free for users.
  • 2.16GB internal storage (of the 4GB) with 2.15GB available for users.
  • Of 1GB RAM you get around 580MB free.

Benchmarking results

  • Quadrant benchmark score – 2481, 2nd time 2532.
  • Antutu benchmark score – 5542.
  • Nenamark2 score – 17.1 FPS.
  • Linpack score – single 37, multi thread 58.
  • Multi Touch support – 5 point.

Gaming
Because of the higher resolution you could get a lower FPS when playing games. Apart from that there should be no issues.

Camera
720p videos play well and the camera does get excellent images outdoors. Indoor photography is not that effective. You can record 720p videos just check out the sample video for quality / sound.  The still picture quality is the same just the resolution and file size has increased.  In general it’s the same 8MP camera.

Battery
You get a spare battery within the box pack so in all you have 2×2000 (4000) mAh battery juice. A 2000 mAh battery easily lasts for over a day with moderate usage.

Wammy Sensation review
Nice looking handset, excellent resolution and running on the ICS OS that will get the Jelly Bean update within few months. The 12MP camera is a disappointment – it’s as good as the 8MP.  The front 3MP camera is a good option. The price of 16,000 I feel is too high and is the biggest disappointment.
