The Wammy Plus with built in 3G will start shipping from 1st July 2012, but you can watch this exclusive video review. I got the demo unit on Saturday and have been playing around with it for quite some time.

To be honest the rectangular box pack was quite simple and I was expecting the tablet to be something in line with the Wammy 7 inch model. But when you look at the tablet, it looks completely different and it does have that WOW factor. Well I am just talking about the looks for now. It’s full black on the front side with touch sensitive buttons and on the back it matt white. The combination gives an elegant look and no doubt it is an eye catcher.

Performance

Well the stuffs inside is the same that we have seen on the Wammy Tablet. There 3 new features namely the 3G SIM slot which can be used for surfing at high speed and you can even use the tab as a phone,  a GPS for navigation and dual cameras. There is front VGA and a rear 2 MP camera without flash. The camera quality is not good.

The CPU is Allwinner ARMv7 (Cortex A8) clocked at 1 GHz with Mail 400 GPU. The screen size is 7 inches, however the resolution is 800 x 480 pixels, could have been better. The quadrant benchmark tool gave a score of 1682 which is much better than what we had seen on the Wammy 7 tablet, all credit to the nicely tweaked ICS.

There is not much to talk about as all apps that works on Wammy 7 will work on the Wammy plus too. When browsing there is a small rendering lag i.e. when you try to zoom in. Adobe flash is supported. The tab weighs 328 grams with 13.4 mm thickness.

There is about 500 MB internal storage for apps, 512 MB RAM and 8 GB storage. The review piece that I got came with the 4 GB version.

Call feature

You can use this tab as a phone using the in-call speaker on the front side, you can place your ear near it and simply start talking as you would do on a mobile phone. For many this might look a bit odd because of the size, by sadly there is no Bluetooth option however you can use the earphones (please confirm this with the seller).

GPS

The GPS worked very well, I got a lock the signal within a minute and with 3G enabled the maps loaded very quickly. GPS is very useful for users who travel a lot.

Battery

The 3000 mAh Li-ion battery powers this tab with estimated usage time of about 4 hours. I could play movies for over 4 hours with minimum brightness. This tab is not replacement for your mobile phone. The 3G features does help in getting access to high speed net plus receive / make calls.

Price

The tab is priced at Rs. 11,999 for with GB internal storage (without taxes) – with taxes it will cost you about Rs 12,998 with 1 year warranty. Buy from Wickedleak.
