Vivo V5s review – upgraded version of Vivo V5

The Vivo V5s is an upgraded version of Vivo V5, both these handsets are packed with same hardware, same features but with minor changes. This Vivo V5s review covers hardware performance, camera quality and battery performance.

Vivo V5s Unboxing

Box Content : Handset, silicon case, SIM Tray Ejector Pin, user manual, warranty card, earphone, data cable and travel charger (5V/2A). SAR Value as mentioned on box : 0.599W/Kg @ 1g Head and 0.798W/Kg @ 1g Body.

Vivo V5s Design, Display and OS

Vivo V5s looks much better than the Vivo V5, the back panel design looks exactly similar to the Vivo V5 Plus handset. Build and finishing is very good. Front from the front one would hardly make out if it is the Vivo V5 or the V5s.

There is a hybrid Dual SIM slot you can use Micro SIM + nano SIM or Micro SIM + Micro SD card. There is LED notification and following sensors – accelerometer, proximity, light, magnetic and gyro.

V5s sports a 5.5 inch 2.5D curved (IPS) screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. The handset came with factory fitted screen guard.

FunTouch OS based on Android Marshmallow  runs out of the box.

Vivo V5s Memory and Storage

Another unique thing about the V5s is the ROM, Vivo V5s comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. If you may recall the Vivo V5 came with 32GB ROM. OTG is supported but you will need to enable that option from settings – it gets disabled if not used within 5 minutes.

Vivo V5s Performance and Benchmark

The hardware is the same as seen on the Vivo V5 handset i.e. MediaTek MT6750 64 bit octa core @ 1.5GHz with Mali T860 GPU. Heat up is under control max battery temperature I encountered was 39 degrees (indoors).

Vivo V5s Benchmark

Quadrant : 21864
AnTuTu : 42133 / 4809
Nenamark 2 : 60.4fps
Disk Speed : 146 MB/s read / 200 MB/s write
Multi Touch : 10 point

Vivo V5s Gaming Review

The MediaTek MT6750 is optimized for 720p resolution. I played Asphalt 8 and the game played smoothly in high visual quality mode.  This hardware can play high end games.

Vivo V5s Camera Review

There is 13MP camera on the back with flash and 20MP camera on the front with moonlight glow option. Camera quality is the same as seen on Vivo V5. Overall camera quality is above average, but the front camera is way much better than the rear camera, and that makes sense since this is a selfie smartphone. This handset can shoot FHD 1080p videos.

Camera Rating Rear camera 3.8 out of 5 and Front Camera 4.0 out of 5

Others

The V5s also comes with finger print sensor that is very fast and accurate. Reliance Jio SIM worked and VoLTE is also supported. I did not face any issues with networks,  speaker sound was loud and clear and in-call sound quality was also pretty good.

GPS lock is instant do note that this MediaTek Chipset supports GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) : GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo

Vivo V5s Battery Review

Like the V5 the V5s also comes with 3000 mAh non-removable battery and the battery performance is the same. It took me 2 hours 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 100% and on a full charge you will get 3 to 8 hours of non-stop usage (moderate to heavy). This means an easy 1 day of battery life with mixed moderate usage.

Vivo V5s Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

Running Benchmark app :  10 minutes / 2% / 35 degrees
Asphalt 8 game play : 20 minutes / 7% / 39 degrees
FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) :  58 minutes / 14% / 36 degrees.

Vivo V5s Review Verdict

Vivo smartphones are no doubt pricey but they sell well in offline markets. The V5s is a better option than the Vivo V5, same performance, battery life, camera quality but with new look (back) and with 64GB storage, more space (better performing ROM).

Rating 3.9 out of 5

Vivo V5s is available for Rs. 18,999.
