The Sony Xperia Miro is loaded with average features but the price tag is way too high at around Rs. 14,500. This is a single SIM phone powered by a mere 800MHz processor. Pre-Orders have already started and is listed on infibeam, it will hit the stores on 22nd September 2012.

There are quite a few good low cost brands that are providing better features than the Sony Xperia Miro, in fact smartphones from bigger brands like Samsung, HTC are also decently priced, lower than the Miro.

Design, display and OS
The Xperia Miro has got that typical Sony Xperia look with 3 dedicated touch sensitive buttons at the bottom followed by the Xperia logo. The display is scratch resistant and with anti reflecting coating. The size if smaller at 3.5 inches with a resolution of 480×320 pixels (165 ppi) supporting 16M colours. 2 point Multi touch is supported.

Now if you compare this with the Micromax A90, it has a better screen, higher resolution, 3 point multi touch and cheaper by Rs. 1,500. In fact there are many other brands including Samsung and HTC Desire C for example that is available for around 12K (with 600 Mhz CPU of course).

Android OS  ver 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) runs on this handset and no word about the Jelly Bean update, but being a Sony brand they may most likely come with the JB update (not sure though).

Inside the Hood
The chipset used is Qualcomm MSM7225A with cortex A5 CPU clocked at 800MHz coupled with Adreno 200 GPU. In fact there are a few low cost handsets with same processing power well under Rs. 8K and some even with 1GHz CPU.

The ROM / RAM are at 512MB each with internal storage of 4 GB of which 2.2 GB is available for user.  The internal storage for apps I believe will be between 500MB to 1GB.

The Sony Xperia Miro supports 3G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.7Mbps), EDGE (237kbps), GPRS (86kbps), Wi-Fi with Hotspot / DIRECT / DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR / A2DP and micro USB support with tethering.

Camera
There is a 5MP rear auto focus camera that can click photos in 2592×1944 pixels resolution. There is an LED flash at the rear for low light photography for use with the 5 megapixel camera. Videos can be recorded in VGA mode at 30fps.

Camera comes loaded with host of features such as Smile detection, 3D sweep panorama, Geo tagging, smile shot, face detection and touch to focus. On the front side you will find the VGA camera for video chats (using Skype) – native video calling (I think) is not supported.

Sony Xperia Miro Review
There is nothing wrong with this Miro smartphones, moreover it is backed by a well known brand ‘SONY’, however the pricing is just not right. Rs. 14,499 for this handset is a big – huge disappointment. Guess what if you still want a Sony brand pay Rs. 2000 extra and get a Sony Xperia U with dual core processor.  The specifications as on the Miro is worth not more than 8K, just look for some other brands if price is the issue.
