Sandisk has announced its next-generation Portable SSD and Extreme Portable SSD range in India. The new drives offer read speeds of up to 1000MB/s and 2000MB/s respectively, with announced 1TB prices of Rs 18,999 and Rs 29,599. They are aimed at everyday backups, large photo libraries and video projects.
These are the newer V3 products, with SDSSDE31 and SDSSDE70 model families. The 2000MB/s drive here is the Extreme Portable SSD, not the separate Extreme PRO range. Checking the full product name and model number matters when comparing similar-looking Sandisk drives.

Sandisk Portable SSD and Extreme SSD Price in India
The Sandisk Portable SSD 1TB starts at Rs 18,999, while the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD 1TB starts at Rs 29,599. These are Sandisk’s announced India prices. Both ranges are available through leading e-commerce platforms and retail outlets.
The Portable SSD range includes 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. The Extreme Portable SSD range adds a 4TB option alongside 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The prices above are specifically for the 1TB variants, not the smallest capacity.
Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD: Up to 2000MB/s
The Extreme Portable SSD is designed for photographers, video creators and professionals who regularly move large files. It offers read speeds of up to 2000MB/s on the 1TB to 4TB models. Sandisk lists the 500GB model’s speed as projected. Write speeds are lower, and actual transfer performance depends on the connected device, interface and usage conditions.
Sandisk also claims that the drive can move 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds. This is an internal test result using PNG files averaging 30.4MB each, rather than a guaranteed time for every photo collection.
For travel and outdoor use, the Extreme model has IP65 dust and water resistance and protection against drops of up to three metres, based on internal testing. IP65 does not mean it can be submerged in water, and the drive should be clean and dry before use.
It supports password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The password-protection feature requires compatible software. A five-year limited warranty is included.
Sandisk Portable SSD: Up to 1000MB/s
The standard Portable SSD is the simpler option for students, office users and anyone who wants to back up documents, photos and personal files. It offers read speeds of up to 1000MB/s and uses a USB-C connection with USB 3.2 Gen 2.
The compact design is easy to carry with a laptop or tablet. Sandisk’s product specifications list protection against drops of up to two metres, based on internal testing. The drive comes with a three-year limited warranty. As with the Extreme model, write speeds are lower than the headline read figure.
Which Sandisk SSD Is Right for You?
The Portable SSD is the lower-priced choice for routine backups and moving everyday files. The Extreme Portable SSD offers a higher read-speed ceiling, stronger stated drop protection, IP65 resistance, encryption and a longer warranty. Those extras make it more relevant for people carrying work files between locations.
For creators, the main practical difference is how much data needs to move and how often. Large video folders can benefit from faster storage, but the laptop or tablet connection also needs to support the required transfer speed. Neither drive removes the need to keep another copy of important files.
