One of those really great ‘value-for-money’ phones from Samsung is the Galaxy Y Pro Duos B5512. The device may not compare with some top smartphones in the market currently, nonetheless its mix of features make it suitable for business.

Processor

The Galaxy Y Pro Duos B5512 is a dual-SIM (dual standby) phone powered by an 832MHz processor. I know that many users would expect at least a 1GHz processor, yet I found this is quite adequate for a decent multi-media experience as also for multi-tasking. It is run by Android Gingerbread v2.3 OS with Touchwiz interface.

Screen

The Galaxy Y Pro Duos B5512 has a 2.6 inch capacitive touchscreen although it sports a full QWERTY keypad. This helps to navigate directly from the screen or type a message using the keypad depending on the need of the task at hand. The screen produces images in 262 K unique color of vivid brilliance with 240×320 pixels in WQVGA resolution.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos B5512 has a decent 3 MP camera at the back and a basic 0.3 MP camera at the front. You can make native video calls using the front camera. It’s a great bargain for the price. The 3 MP primary camera gives you the same set of features viz. video or stills with the usual range of options and settings.

Connectivity

Being 3G enabled (7.2 Mbps HSDPA), this handset allows you access to high speed data exchange that is currently the norm. In small towns where 2G is still prevalent, you can get the Internet through the GPRS, WAP and Edge technologies in the device. And in case you are at airports or malls that have Wi-Fi, this device allows you to hook up directly.

Battery Life

Its 1350 mAh Lithium Ion battery when fully charged will give you about 19 hours talktime if on a 2G network and approx. 7 hours on a 3G network. For moderate users the battery can easily last for almost two days.

Sundry features

The phone has support for GPS with A-GPS; for audio you have MP3, WAV, eAAC+ and for video MP4, WMV, H.264, MPEG4, H.263. Among sensors you have Accelerometer, Digital Compass and Proximity Sensor.

As I said above, this phone can be useful for business as it has feature like Pushmail and Document viewer that allow you to view/edit Word, Powerpoint, Excel and pdf files. Users might also like the ‘Find My Mobile’ app which can be used to lock the device from a distance and in case of a theft/loss you can erase confidential files. This bit of security is a definite plus for the phone.

Review

For the price there are other brands like the Karbonn A7 and the latest Spice Mi-425 that are loaded with much better features. In summing it up, I’d say, the phone is worth the price as it comes with Samsung reliability. That is, until you wish to upgrade to a more pricey, features phone.

Price

For Rs. 9,500 with 1 year warranty.
