The Galaxy J7 was launched along with the Galaxy J5. These smartphones carry an attractive price tag. The Samsung Galaxy J7 is Exynos octa core powered and running lollipop with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage. It is better than the J5 and priced at ₹14,999.

Galaxy J7 Unboxing
Inside the box you will get the handset, user guide, warranty card, battery of 3000 mAh capacity, earphone, data cable and travel charger (5V ~ 1.55A). Max SAR value = 0.571 W/Kg (Head).

Design and Display
The J7 design is exactly similar to the J5. In other words the Samsung Galaxy J7 is a bigger version of the Galaxy J5, and of course there is a difference in price. J7 body is made of plastic, with a good built quality and finishing.

I got the gold colour variant that looks great, front as well as the back panels are golden colour and sides have got metallic silver finishing. Overall the handset looks pretty premium.

There are dual Micro SIM slots and a 3rd slot (overlapping) for adding micro SD card. 4G works on both the SIM slots (SIM 1 and SIM 2).

Samsung has made a small change in the design and the same is visible on almost all handsets that were recently launched – the top and the bottom sides are slightly bending inwards. Weight with battery is 170 grams and dimensions are 78.74 x 152.85 x 7.97mm.

Galaxy J7 sports a 5.5 inch super AMOLED screen supporting 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Colour reproduction, viewing angles and touch response are very good.

There is no LED notification, native video calling is supported and J7 is packed with just 2 sensors – Accelerometer and proximity. There is no light sensor – you will need to manually adjust the brightness levels.

Memory, Storage and OS
The J7 is running 32 Bit Android Lollipop 5.1.1 with Touch Wiz UI. There is 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage space. Of the 16GB space, users will get around 10GB available space and about 568MB free RAM on the first boot. There is micro SD card slot, apps are getting installed on internal storage, you can move some apps to external storage. OTG is supported.

Performance
Galaxy J7 is powered by Exynos 7580 64 Bit Cortex A53 octa core processor clocked at 1.5GHz coupled with Mali T-720 GPU. Performance is smooth and handset does not heat up much.

Benchmark

Benchmark App Score
Quadrant 22178
Antutu (32 bit) 1st – 37769 , 2nd – 37700
Nenamark 2 59.8fps
Multi touch 10 point

Gaming
I played two games the usual Asphalt 8 and the new UnKilled. Both these games got installed on the internal storage. Asphalt 8 was playable in high visual quality mode. UnKilled played better in auto mode but in High graphics mode, there was a minor lag.

Camera
The rear camera is a 13MP shooter that can also record full HD videos. Front camera is of 5MP resolution. There is LED flash support for front as well as rear camera. Camera quality is above average. You can check the sample images and video listed at the end of this review.

Others
No other issues found, sound (speaker / in-call) is loud and clear. 4G, 3G, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth worked well.

Battery
There is 3000 mAh removable battery, that does a very good job. I did face some issues with the battery % (battery calibration issue). The battery was stuck at 75% for a longer time, even with heavy usage. But overall the battery backup lasted for almost 2 days. Battery performance is as good as seen on the Galaxy J5. I am getting a comfortable 1 day 10 hours of mixed usage on a single charge.

Performance Time Battery drop % Battery Max Temp
Benchmark 11 Minutes 0% (calibration issue) 35 degree
Gaming (Asphalt 8) 29 Minutes 1% (calibration issue) 37 degree
FHD movie play with full brightness + Wi-Fi on 30 minutes 7% 36 degree
Wall Charge (on standby) 2 hours 40 minutes 4% to 100% (wall charge) 35 degree

Verdict
This is another well priced smartphone from Samsung Mobiles. It is octa core powered, powerful, above average camera and very good battery backup. If you were impressed with the Samsung Galaxy J5, the J7 is even better. However there is a price difference, but not much.

Samsung Galaxy J7 again a very good buy for ₹14,999.

Galaxy J7 is available in Black, White and Gold colour options. The big sales on major online stores in India will begin from 12th October till 17th October, so watch out for any offers on Galaxy J7 and J5. These handsets are also available in offline (retail) stores.
