Performance

Inside the hood it’s using 32 bit Spreadtrum 1.5GHz SC8830 quad core processor with Mali 400 MP GPU. For general use the performance is good, tablet does not heat-up much but for better gaming experience you might want to switch to medium or low quality mode.

  • Nenamark 2 – 57.7fps

Gaming

I played Asphalt 8 in high quality mode, game was playable but worked better in medium quality mode.

Others

Sound is loud and clear, there is in-call speaker too. It is not comfortable using the tablet for making calls (for longer period) but you can use wired earphone or Bluetooth headset that is included inside the box. I did not find any issues with the networks. 4G, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth worked well.

This tablet comes with kids mode and also supports multi window. J Max supports VoLTE, Ultra data saving mode and S-Bike mode (press and hold power button to get S-Bike option).

Battery

The 4000 mAh non-removable battery does a very good job, you can expect 6 to 9 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage on a single charge. For mixed usage you can expect over one day (moderate usage) and with heavy usage almost 24 hours.

Samsung Galaxy J Max Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature).

  • Running Benchmark app – 8 minutes / 9% / 29 degrees
  • Asphalt 8 game play – 18 minutes / 5% / 30 degrees
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 28 minutes / 7% / 31 degrees.

It took me 3 hour 32 minutes to charge the handset using wall charger from 18% to 100%.

Verdict

J Max is using a not so powerful Spreadtrum chipset, camera is also average – J Max is pricey considering the price tag. If you compare the Samsung Galaxy J Max with Xiaomi Mi Max, the Mi Max is a better option (there were WiFi issues on recent lot), performance wise (3x more powerful) and dimension wise (smaller than J Max).

Rating 2.5 out of 5.
