Samsung has launched their first Smartwatch called the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The Galaxy gear will carry a price tag of $299 and will be sold along with the Galaxy Note 3. No word about the release or the price in India.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear will compete with the Sony Smartwatch. The gear sports a 1.63 inch screen with 320×320 pixels resolution. The screen is super AMOLED!. The Smartwatch will be available in attractive colors.

What can this Gear smartwatch watch do?
You need to connect it with your cell phone and then you can receive calls, make calls, read text messages, control music player, take pictures, record videos, voice control is built in with Svoice –you can tap twice to activate the voice feature. You can also use this watch as a regular phone as it does come with built in speaker and mic.

This watch houses a 1.9MP camera that too with an auto focus feature and can also record videos in 720p resolution (for 10 seconds only). The Galaxy Gear Smartwatch is powered by Exynos processor clocked at 800 Mhz. It’s a single core processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB storage.

A 315mAh battery powers up the device and  according to Samsung it should give a backup time of up to 24 hours. The battery can be charged using a dedicated cradle.  Naturally this watch will not come loaded with all the features that are present on the handset like Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G/2G etc, but yes it does comes with Bluetooth 4.3 support that is used/required to pair up with the handset.

Some of the features included are Pedometer, SVoice and dozens of apps. The Gear for now works only with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Note 10.1. In other words the Gear Smartwatch works only with Android 4.3.
