Samsung Galaxy E7 review – bigger version of Galaxy E5

E7 is another handset in the Samsung Galaxy E series. The Galaxy E7 also called the Galaxy E700 is using the same hardware that powers the Galaxy E5. There is not much of a difference between these two handsets, in simple words the Samsung Galaxy E7 is a bigger version of the Samsung Galaxy E5.

Box pack
The box colour and packing is similar to as seen on the Galaxy E5. Inside the box you will get the E7 handset, quick start guide, warranty card, data cable, travel charger, premium earphone, earphone plug caps and SIM tray ejector pin.

Design, Display and OS
This looks almost similar to the E5 the only difference is the size and some specs changes. This handset is big with a weight of about 139 grams (with built in battery) and dimensions are 77.42 x 151.82 x 7.18 (mm).

The handset has got a metal frame and the rest of the body is made of plastic. Rear is soft to touch with a matte finish. Volume rocker is on the left, power button along with SIM slots on the right and micro USB port and audio jack at the bottom. There are dual Mics for noise cancellation.

The Galaxy E7 comes with a big screen of 5.5 inches, it’s a super AMOLED screen supporting 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Touch is smooth, viewing angles and colour production are very good.

This handset is running Android KitKat 4.4.4 with TouchWiz UI.

There are no LED notification. This is a dual SIM handset with 3G support, you will need 2 nano SIM’s. SIM slot 2 is a hybrid SIM you can either use a nano SIM or a micro SD card (cannot use both together).

Just like on the Galaxy E5 light sensors are also missing on the E7, other sensors are accelerometer and proximity.

Memory and Storage
There is 16GB internal storage space – you will get 11GB free for apps / storage and of the 2GB RAM you will get around 1.3GB free on the first boot. OTG is not supported and you cannot install apps on the external storage.

Performance
The E7 is also using the 64 bit  – Qualcomm Snapdragon (cortex A53) quad core processor (MSM8916 chipset) @ at 1.2GHz with Adreno 306 GPU. No issues with performance it was smooth and lag free.

Antutu 21183
Vellamo Metal (767) Multi core (1239) Browser (2056)
Nenamark 2 53.7 fps
Multi Touch 10 point

Gaming
I played Asphalt 8 – it got installed on the internal storage. Game play was very smooth. This handset can play high end games.

Camera
When compared with the E5, the E7 comes with 13MP AF camera with LED flash packed on the rear and a 5MP fixed focus camera on the front. Camera quality is above average. No difference in the quality when compared with E5 except for the resolution. The rear camera can shoot FHD videos. Check sample images and videos at the end.

Others
No other issues found. 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS worked well. Sound was loud and clear. Handset does not heat up much. Max temperature was 34 degrees.

Battery
It is a big handset and hence comes with a bigger battery capacity. There is a 2950 mAh built in battery. You can expect up to 6 hours (and over) of continuous, moderate to heavy usage.

Task Time Battery drop (%) (max temp)
Running Benchmark apps 20 minutes 5% (34)
FHD video playback with Wi-Fi on + full brightness 20 minutes 5% (35)
Asphalt 8 Game Play 16 minutes 4% (34)
Full Wall Charge Under 3 hours 15% to 100%

Verdict
As already clear from the Galaxy E7 review, the E7 is a bigger version of the Galaxy E5. To sum up it has got a bigger screen, more RAM, higher MP primary camera and higher battery capacity. The E5 is priced at approx Rs. 16,500 and the E7 at approx Rs. 19,500. The price difference seems too much.

Galaxy E7 available for under Rs. 20K.
