Philips has launched two new handsets in India, the Philips I928 powered by 1.7GHz octa core processor and the Philips S388 that is powered by 1.3GHz quad core processor. Both the handsets seems to powered by MediaTek chipsets and the pricing don’t look too good. The I928 is for Rs. 38,538 and the S388 for Rs. 13,694.

The Philips I928 (phablet) is using the MediaTek octa core processor clocked at 1.7GHz (they have not mentioned the chipset on their website). It runs Android 4.2 which is pretty much outdated over a 6 inch TFT screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It’s a unique 2.5D curved glass screen and the handset body is 7.9mm thick. The back is with premium leather like finishing.

There is 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and micro SD card support of up to 32GB. Of the 16GB storage about 12GB is available for users. Also included is a 13MP rear AF camera with LED flash and 5MP on the front. Key features are 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. The battery is 3300 mAh (Li-ion) with up to 19 hours of talk-time. This dual SIM octa core handset is priced at Rs. 38,538.

The Philips S388 on the other hand is also using the MediaTek quad core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. It also comes loaded with Android 4.2 running over a 4.5 inch screen with qHD (960 x 540 pixels) resolution. The RAM and the Storage are not mentioned but most likely it could be 1GB and 4 or 8 GB. Micro SD card is also supported (32GB max).

There is 5MP rear AF camera with LED flash support and VGA front camera. Key features are 3G, 2G, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and GPS. The S388 comes with 1700 mAh battery (Li-ion) and is priced at Rs. 13,694.
