Micromax has finally entered the low cost tablet market by launching the Micromax Funbook a 7 inch tablet running on the android 4.0 (ICS) OS. Interestingly the tablet is priced at Rs. 6,499 and is here to compete with many low cost tablets already flooding the Indian markets.

The Funbook is what they call a new age edutainment. The 1.2 GHz processor and the ICS OS are powerful enough to help students learn as well as get entertained. They can get access to study material from primary to under graduate level. Students can access interactive video classes and do much more. The interactive study material (optional) is available for CBSE class 1 to class 12 and each course material is priced at Rs. 799. For example if you opt for the CBSE class 3 course material you will have to pay Rs. 799.

The Funbook proudly claims to come with a built in India label. This Micromax tablet has been specifically designed with Indian audience in mind.

Processor and OS
The Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz with 512 MB RAM can handle any task with easy and add to it the well known Dual Mali 400 GPU that can easily render 2D/3D content without lags. The Android 4.0 is another good feature. This tab comes with ICS OS that is already known for its unique and easy to use user interface and faster performance.

Display Screen
The Micromax Funbook comes with a 7 inch capacitive touchscreen supporting 800 by 480 pixels resolution. The display ratio is 16:9 and multi touch (pinch to zoom etc) is supported.

Design and Memory
The Funbook is sleek and slim, easy to hold and comes in Midnight Black and Slate Grey colours. The front size has a VGA camera placed in the centre top area just above the touchscreen and on the right side there are 3 dedicated buttons. The rear side is pretty simple and looks good with the Funbook logo in the center and Micromax logo at the bottom followed by the port icons or text.

This tab comes with built in 4 GB internal memory (NAND) and also supports microSD card up to 32 GB.

Connectivity
As will all low cost tablets the Funbook also does not come with built in 3G instead you can use a USB 3G dongle (You will need to check out the models that are supported). Other options are HDMI port, USB and Wi-Fi that comes built in.

Entertainment
The Funbook is light weight, easy to carry and a powerful portable entertainment device. You can watch HD videos (2160p) and even use the HDMI port to connect the tab with your HD TV and enjoy the videos on your TV.

The media player supports AVI, WMV, MOV, MPEG2/4, WMA, MP3, 3GP and many more formats. You can even play HD games thanks to the Mali GPU or view picture using the picture viewer. With the default web browser you can browse any sites with the same experience that you get on a desktop.
