Micromax has now launched the Micromax Funbook Alpha another low cost tablet running ICS over a 1GHz processing power, Mali 400 and 4GB internal storage. The pricing details are not known; however expect it to be well under Rs. 7,000.

Micromax had first launched the MM Funbook and then came the Funbook pro and now the Alpha. The Micromax website (Micromaxfunbook.com) has already listed the product and mentions it as Cortex A13 processor. It is most likely the Allwinner A13 processor Cortex A8. This I believe is similar to VeeDee’s D13 tablet and another tablet called Fonix Star.

The Allwinner A13 is the latest trend and is found in many newly launched tablets. This processor is cheaper, consumes less power and gives a better performance. These A13 models does not support HDMI, and hence there no HDMI port. The tab is as light weight and slimmer than the Allwinner A10 models. There is a common thing I have noticed on these A13 tabs, there are no buttons on the front panel, and this helps reduce the size.

The Micromax Funbook Alpha is clocked at 1Gz but the A13 models that I have reviewed were clocked at 1.2GHz. The RAM again is not mentioned but it could be 512MB or 1GB, depending on which the price will vary. The tab houses a 0.3 MP camera placed in the front and other features like Wi-Fi, 3G support (via external dongle), pre-loaded apps, access to Google play, YouTube, multi format media player and gaming (thanks to the Mali 400 GPU + G-Sensors).

MicroSD card up to 32GB is supported. The screen size is 7 inches supporting resolution of 800×480 pixels. A 2800 mAh battery should give a decent usage time of about 3 to 5 hours. The Micromax Funbook Alpha tab will be available in Suave Silver colour. And not to forget the edutainment material that can also be bought.
