The Micromax Canvas 2 Colours also called the Micromax A120 is available for under Rs. 10,000. It is powered by 1.3GHz quad core processor, camera quality is pretty good and you get 2 extra colourful back panels. The back panels give a completely new look, it’s like owning 3 different handsets.

Box Pack
The box is not the usual kind it’s book shaped and here are the list of contents – Micromax Canvas 2 Colours A120 handset, 2000 mAh battery, 2 extra back panels (different colors), user guide, warranty card, data cable, travel charger and standard earphone.

The Micromax Canvas 2 Colours is available in greyish black and white colour options. If you choose the greyish back you will get free Yellow and Blue back panels (included in the box) and if you go with the white colour handset you will get the Red and Green back panels.

Design and Display
The handset has got a very catchy look and all the credit goes to the back panel that totally covers up the handset up to the screen. The colourful back panels in fact gives a new look to the handset. The buttons are also part of the back panel and follow the same colour pattern.

The build quality and the finishing looks really good, and considering the price tag you can say it’s much better. Volume rockers are on the left, power on the right and micro USB port plus 3.5mm audio jack is on the top. There seems to be only one mic placed at the bottom. Micromax A120 weight with battery is 168 grams and is about 9.23mm thick.

Micromax A120 side view

The screen is 5 inches with IPS display supporting resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Viewing angles are good (screen not clearly visible from some angles) and touch is smooth & responsive. Colour reproduction is good. When you switch on the handset for the first time the default wallpaper might look odd. There are colourful wallpapers to match the back panels.

The Micromax Canvas 2 Colours A120 comes with 3 sensors – accelerometer, proximity and light.

Vellamo HTML5 (1929) Metal (513)

Gaming
Modern Combat 4 (MC4) and Asphalt 8 games got installed on the external storage. The game play was smooth without any issues. Check the gaming video (part for the video review).

Camera and Entertainment
It’s a 8MP AF camera on the rear and 2MP on the front. The rear camera quality is too good considering the price tag. Check the sample images and videos. On the box pack its mentioned that the handset can record HD videos, well in fact it can record FHD videos (1080p @ 30fps). Micromax A120 can play full HD videos.

Others
Sound is loud and clear. 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS worked well. When I was outdoor shooting the images and videos the handset temperature went up to 48 degrees, cause of the extreme heat outside. But when indoor the handset doesn’t heat up too much.

2000 mAh battery
I used the handset, running benchmark apps for about 18 minutes, battery dropped by 9% and temperature was 37 degrees. The second time I played the Asphalt 8 game for about 17 minutes the battery dropped by 9 percent and the temperature was 38 degrees.

With moderate to high continuous usage the handset will last for about 3 to 4 hours. Battery performance is average.
