Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 review – 16GB with 256 bit hardware encryption

The DataTraveler vault privacy 3.0 is available in 4GB to 64GB storage options. These USB storage drives are different from the traditional storage drives that you might be using. The Vault Privacy 3.0 comes with built in 256 bit advance encryption (hardware based) that provides 100% data protection.

The box pack is pretty simple, it includes a USB drive, user manual and a carry on string. The drive is bluish colour with metallic finish with two colour combination (blue / black). The black side have lines that help get a good grip when plugging in or plugging out the drive.

As far as the storage is concerned it depends on the Kingston DataTraveler Vault 3.0 capacity that you have selected. The drive is available in 4G, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options. There are 3 different models – standard model, antivirus (with anti virus protection) and management ready.

The standard version is more than enough for many users. Since these drives come with built-in data protection that are not that cheap. If your data is too sensitive, you always want to carry it around and don’t want to share it with other people then Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 is the best option.

This USB drive works best with USB 3.0, though you can still use it with USB 2.0. With USB 3.0 you can get a read speed of up to 165MB/s and with USB 2.0 the max read speed is 30MB/s. There is not much difference between the write speed on both USB 3.0 (22MB/s) and USB 2.0 (20MB/s).

When you plugin the Vault Privacy 3.0 for the first time, if for some reason the autorun does not work, you will need to run the DVTV30 launcher (the file will be there on the drive itself).

You will then need to set the password and then the drive will be formatted and ready to use. Every time you plugin the USB drive you will need to enter the password to access the contents of the drive. This way your data is protected.

The contents cannot be accessed by bypassing the password screen, in case you forget the password you can use the forget password option that will format the drive and you it will ask you to assign a new password, so in general you will not be able to access the content and drive will be formatted – but you can use the drive again. In case the drive gets stolen or lost and someone else gets it, they can use the drive after formatting, but they will never be able to access your data unless they know your password.

The Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 is a secure drive (a secure portable alternative for carrying sensitive data) with built in hardware protection; it is available for a price of Rs. 3,500 (8GB), 4,200 (16GB) and 7,200 (32GB).
