Smartphones running Jolla Sailfish OS will be made available in 136 countries

Jolla Jolla handset running on the Jolla Sailfish OS will be first launched in Finland and then will be rolled out in 136 countries. Remember the MeeGo OS that Nokia was working on? well the Sailfish is based on the same.

Nokia were working on the MeeGo software platform but later abandoned it. Sailfish is based on MeeGo and developed by the ex-Nokia team. It will be difficult for this new OS to enter the market especially when consumers prefer the Android or iOS. Even Firefox OS had launched their mobile OS but it is really not grabbing that much attention.

As for the specification the Jolla handset will come powered by 1.4GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (Krait 200) with Adreno 305 GPU. It will run on the new Sailfish OS with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. In addition external micro SD card of up to 64GB can also be used.

Jolla Jolla is a single SIM handset sporting a 4.5 inch screen with 960×540 pixels resolution. Screen is with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. Rear auto focus camera is of 8MP resolution with LED flash and front camera of 2MP resolution.

Key features are 4G, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS. Battery is 2100 mAh (Li-ion) that gives up to 10 hours talk-time. No word as to when the handset will be available in India and the price. Also check the Jolla official website.
