Intex Cloud FX review – low budget smartphone running Firefox OS

Intex Mobiles had launched the Cloud FX smartphone for a price of Rs. 1,999. The unique feature about this handset is that it comes powered by Firefox OS. For this price is the handset worth it? read the review.

Box Pack
Inside the box you will get the Cloud FX handset, warranty card, 1250 mAh battery, data cable, travel charger, user guide and earphone. SAR Value : 1.2 W/Kg.

Design and Display
The handset is smaller in size, even though it looks kind of bulky it is light weight at 106 grams. Dimensions are 62.92mm x 114.73mm 11.69mm. Build quality is good and the back panel got textures with matte finish, it gives a very good grip. There is a single microphone at the bottom.

Power button and 3.5mm audio jacks is placed on the top, micro USB port and volume rockers are on the left. There is single camera of 2MP resolution placed on the rear.

The capacitive touch screen is 3.5 inches supporting 480 x 320 pixels resolution. Touch is smooth but viewing angles are not great, you can ignore that considering the price tag. There is only one sensor the G-Sensor.

Memory and Storage
There is 128MB RAM and 256MB internal storage. You can use external cards of up to 4GB. OTG is not supported.

Performance
The Intex Cloud FX is using a 1GHz processor probably Single Core, there is minimal RAM of 128MB and 256MB storage. The handset clearly lags. There is built in Firefox browser but it takes time loading the pages. Over the air updates are supported. This is a dual SIM handset with 2G support. The Firefox OS is new but the hardware isn’t up to the mark.

Others
There is Wi-Fi with Hotspot, USB tethering is supported and when USB storage is enabled you can access the micro SD card from your PC/ Laptop. Sound is loud and clear. There is Market place from where you can download apps for the Firefox OS. Whatsapp is not available. There is no built in GPS but with Geo Location option you can get the approx location using the Mobile network. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked well.

Camera
There is 2MP fixed focus on the rear and the quality is very bad. The camera interface does not have any options, you will just find the camera and video recording buttons.

Battery
The 1250 mAh battery is another disappointment. It drained off quickly. When the battery was at 73% I disabled everything, even removed the SIM’s, so technically the phone was in pure standby mode. The battery drained off completely in just 8 hours, even in standby mode.

Verdict
The Cloud FX is here to compete with the feature phones, unfortunately it doesn’t provide the kind of experience one would have expected from a smartphone. Moreover the battery backup doesn’t look good.

Spend some extra money and get a better smartphone or get a feature phone with better battery life.

Intex Cloud FX is available for Rs. 1,999.
